I wrote yesterday about DS being diagnosed with torticollis. I was wondering if BW affected this at all. I have him in a front carry in a beco. I try to make sure his head is rotated. When your LO got PT, did they say anything about wearing them? Thanks for your reply!
We didn't get to the PT point, but I would make/encourage her to turn her head the way she didn't like to while wearing her (I wear her on the front facing me so to see she turns her all sideways). I think it helped a lot because at the next appt they didn't say anything about the T at all. (We also did the next stretches during this same period).
Ari's pedi & PT said to wear him more when I asked about it. Limiting time in seats & on their backs is important. We received the same suggesting to rotate his head to the other side than what he preferred.

Well, I'm so glad that I've been wearing DS so much! I guess that's why the doc was surprised he didn't have a flat head too. I didn't mention to her that I wear him for almost all his naps. But maybe I should so she will recommend to other moms to wear their babies!
I've been trying to get DS to nap in his crib, but now I am thinking I should just continue to wear him for his naps and maybe just have him take a short nap in his crib to give my back a break. Thanks for your reply!
My first born had torticollis really bad. I didn't find out about it until he was 4 months old. It was bad. We did PT 2 times per week and had to do several exercises/stretches with him. I hardly ever wore him so he did have a very flat head on one side. How i didn't notice is beyond me! Anyway, he is 4 years old now and you cannot tell. He did great with PT, even if it was really hard. Good Luck!

I'm glad your son is doing better. My doc said that since they've been recommending back sleep a lot more kids have torticollis and back sleep. : ( I guess there's always a pros and cons! I'm looking forward to getting DS PT. I wish this problem was more well known. Cause I had noticed him tilting his head for a long time, a couple months, but just thought it was his way of holding his head. He would have been getting PT this whole time instead of just starting. But I guess it's still early on. I'll definitely be diligent about those exercises! Thanks!
I agree that it's awful that no one tells new parents about the risks of flat head/torticollis until the baby already has them.
How hard is it to recommend that your baby doesn't spend all of its time laying with its head facing one direction?
I feel fortunate that I've been through it (diagnosis, PT, stretching, etc) with a little boy I used to nanny so I feel better prepared for my own child. When I share this with other moms a lot of people think I'm nuts though because they are sure they would have heard something about it from their pediatrician.
So, keep spreading the word!
