Dutchess County Hospital and doctor recommendations please!

It has been a long time since I have been on the Bump, but I am back.  I am pregnant with my second child, and due in October.  I delivered my first born in Connecticut and had an unbelievable wonderful experience.  However I am now trying to choose between Northern Dutchess and Vassar Hospital.  I have heard mixed things about both hospitals.  I'm also trying to find a new doctor and practice, preferable one that does not shut off their phones during lunch breaks, as I own a business and my time is extremely limited when it comes to making phone calls and setting up appointments.  Anyone willing to share advice or your own experiences, I greatly appreciate it!  Thank you so much!

Re: Dutchess County Hospital and doctor recommendations please!

  • I see Dr. Vivian Sone.  Her office is in Fishkill, but she only delivers out of Northern Westchester Hospital (closer to her home and her preferred hospital of choice).  Dr. Sone is very attentive and hands-on.

  • Thank you for your reply, but I'm afraid that Fishkill and Northern Westchester may be a little too far for me to travel to.  Thank you for your suggestion though :)

  • I've been with friends at the nuegarten birthing center at Northern Dutchess and thoose experiences have helped my husband and I to deliver there. Rhinebeck women's health practice has been wonderfull. They have a new office in Kingston as well and deliver at Northern dutchess. The practice is all women with both Dr.'s and midwives. hope this helps, Congrats!!
  • I delivered at Vassar, and was very happy with my experience there. I used Mount Kisco Medical Group for my OB/GYN. They have offices in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill in this area (as well as some in Carmel, Katonah, etc). They were great.
  • I delivered at Vassar this past October and also use Mount Kisco Medical Group for my OB/GYN and Pediatrician (in Poughkeepsie). My experience at Vassar was wonderful! The nurses were wonderful, the food wasn't bad, and the view of the Hudson was beautiful!  It's also really easy to have my OB and the Pediatrician in the same building....once the baby came I scheduled my apts about 15-30 min apart and when right from my check up to his...so easy!  (I had to go back a couple times due to the fact that I had to have a c-section).  Dr. Cutler is my sons pediatrician and she is wonderful.  Everyone in the office knows us by name, there is never a wait and making apts. is very easy!
  • I delievered at Vassar and loved loved it- I wouldnt go anywhere else.  My first choice was actually northern dutchess until I started doing more research.  My OB is Dr Molly Cowgill- she has her own practice, no other Drs, so you never get bounced around.  She is amazing and only delievers at vassar.  Her office is in Highland, about 5 mins from the New Paltz exit.  For pediatricians I use Dr David Fenner from Childrens Medical Group and again, he has been fantastic.  They have many offices but we go to the one in Rhinebeck.

I second all this. I love this practice and delivered at the birthing center. It was a wonderful experience. I found RWH health to be very responsive and was able to easily get in contact with a nurse when I had problems. What specifically are you looking for? I'm more than happy to answer any questions or tell you about my experience.

ETA: I think they may have phones off during lunch hour at RWH but I have found that to be pretty common with any medical office in the area that I've dealt with.

  • I had my first at Vassar and they were all great.  And I go to Mid Hudson Medical Group for my OB and pediatrician and they're really good there too.
  • I delivered at Vassar and had a HORRIBLE experience.  I could go on and on about how bad my experience was.  I even received flowers from the hospital as well as a call from the head nurse apologizing....and the worst part of it was that I didn't complain.  They just KNEW how bad they screwed up with me in every aspect of my delivery and stay.

Also, I ended up with an infection at the hospital which is common for the kind of delivery I had.  I was on IV antibiotics and in the hopsital for 6 nights.  I even had to see an infectious disease specialist.  Turns out they mixed up my blood with another patient.  All those needles for nothing!

Needless to say, I'm delivering baby #2 outside of Vassar...which stinks because I had to change my practice but well worth it to me in the end.

  • Flower...just out of curiosity, i am delivering in CT as I live so close to the border...can i ask where you delivered, doctor, etc.?  Just curious.

  • I had two great delieveries and I am looking foward to go back in August for my third.  With my first I used Mt.Kisco Medical Group and LOVED them....with my second I had to switch to Fishkill OB because of insurance and was not as happy.  Now onto my third I am back to Mt. Kisco Medical Group because they accept my insurance again I couldn't be happier.   I prefer Dr. Saycheck, Dr. Lederman and Dr. Eng. Although all the Dr's are great and very helpful. Good luck!
