On Sunday, my ILs came up for a visit. They drove and brought their "carseat" (they use it for my 2.5yo niece and used to use it for my 7 yo niece...it's the same one they had for my 17 yo SIL). We met up with them and they were sitting in their car and DH went to talk to them. They said, "we have a carseat, just bring LO in here and ride with us." DH says, "Well, LO is already in his carseat in our car and all the stuff is in there too...so just ride with us." (NICE, DH)
So ILs get in and MIL says to me, "So how long does he have to sit like this?" (Regarding RF...we have switched to convertible since we saw them last...their "carseat" only FF) I say, "well, they have to be RF until 1yo, but the new rec is 2 yo." I then explained the youtube videos and she was like, "Oh, I guess that is better."
Thank you, I didn't have to fight with her about it, she saw my side and I won!!! (It's a first...luckily FIL wasn't paying attention to the convo, or we would still be fighting over it.)

Re: MIL post regarding carseats
lol
I know right - I'm all for a hand me down but seriously, a 17 year old carseat?! WOW.

And somebody lets their 2 year old still ride in this?
I don't know if the mother of my niece as even seen it. She's riden in it since 6 months or less. I would have bought them one before letting my LO ride in it. I still consider buying them a convertible bc they could use it for either of the girls (bc I know they probably don't use a booster with my 7 yo niece even though it's law in MI.) They don't listen to the moms of my nieces...

This! I had to tell my mom that the plastic starts to break down after a few years. 17 years is way too old.
But I am glad that she had the sense to agree with you.
ETA: They usually "expire" after 6 years.
Okay, car seats can be expensive but seriously ... there is no reason for them to not have bought a cheap 39 buck one at walmart (we bought the cosco one for when we fly since it is light weight and sleeker).
I also can't believe that other parents allowed their children to ride in that seat. Sad.
