Buffalo Pediatricians?

DH brought up the idea that we have to decide what we're doing for a pediatrician for our little one. ?I have no idea who to choose or where to start! ?Would anyone recommend their pediatrician? ?We live in Buffalo- on the border of West Seneca. ?I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere in the Buffalo area...doesn't matter if it's Southtowns or Northtowns. ?

Also, what questions should we ask when we meet with a potential doctor? ?(Assuming we'll meet with them prior?....did you? If so, when?) ??

Re: Buffalo Pediatricians?

  • I live in North Buffalo, and we go to Amherst Peds. I really like it there, but sometimes wish I would have went somewhere closer... so you might want to keep distance in mind. It's not that it's a far drive, but driving 20 minutes w/ a newborn isn't always fun. Or taking him in during the winter in the cold and snow.

My mom works in the medical industry, and her office specializes in pediatrics so she works w/ all the area Pedi offices. Amherst was her #1 recommendation, based on the doctors she works with... so that was my main reason for going there. I also looked at Delaware Peds (which I've heard great things about)

  • i would recommend ours.  We go to tonawanda pediatrics.  They  might be far for you.  They are off of the Blvd.  I know 3 other families that go there and all are happy.

I wouldn't go to Buffalo Pediatrics.  They were Ethan's 1st doctors and I didn't like them right from the get go. we changed dr's at 4 months.

You want to ask how long you will wait in the waiting room, can you get a same day appt, the hours.(one of the nesties is really lucky and their doc is open on Sundays)

  • I live in West Seneca, and we go to WNY Pediatrics in OP.  They are an awesome group, big, they have 6 doctors, but we have no complaints whatsoever.  We didn't meet with them beforehand because we got lots of great recommendations, and they are nice and close, have great hours, and a great set up for after hours calls.
  • I used to take Reed to Tonawanda Peds (East Amherst office, Dr. Piwko) when we lived in Williamsville.  It was too far once we moved to Orchard Park.  We now go to Carrow St. Pediatrics in the village of Orchard Park and I have been very happy so far.  I would recommend both practices.  I would think the southtowns or Buffalo would be easiest for you since visits like ear infections or sinus infections can be frequent and could be annoying to drive a far distance for.
  • We go to Amherst Peds - and I'd give them 3 stars out of 5...so, eh.

But I just want to repeat what a pp said - I would def keep distance in mind...because it's really hard for us to drive 30 minutes to the doctor - wait/exam/office stuff etc...and then 30 minutes home. It's just too long for babies sometimes.

  • We go to Tonawanda Peds (E.Amherst office) and love it. It would be a bit of a drive for you though.

We used to go to Lifetime Health- I wasn't a huge fan of them, although it was very easy to get an appointment the same day.

  • Thanks everyone! ?These are the same practices that we keep getting recommendations for. ?I'm hoping to do my research and make a decision soon. ?

This is where we go too.  We have never had a problem making an appointment.  I have called the nurse line a few times and each time they are helpful and really nice.

  • We go to Suburban Pediatrics https://www.suburbanpediatrics.com/ in Williamsville and LOVE it there! They have amazing hours....evenings until 8:00 and they're open Saturdays and Sundays too! They also have an "expecting parents" night I think the 3rd Thursday of each month where you can stop in for an "open house"...see the facility meet some of the doctors and ask any questions. It was so nice that they had that!

  • I don't really have a pedi to recommend.. we take Eve to East Aurora Family practice, the same Dr that DH and I see, and while they are leaps and bounds better than our first pediatrician (East Aurora Peds, stay away.. far far away)... there are things I don't love.. and the family practice thing isn't for everyone (I'm not entirely sure its for me)..

but i wanted to repeat what everyone else is saying.. You might not think that distance is important now, but when your baby is first born, you may be at the pedi's office like 3 or 4 times in the first two weeks, even if he is totally healthy. We went at 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks and 1 month.. and then again at 5 weeks.. (I think 3 of those were just standard appts, and 2 were weight checks cuz she was slow to gain).. The fact that the drs office was 30 seconds from my house was the only reason I didn't completely lose my mind.
