Drew is on Allimentum....he just pooped and it has blood in it. We are going to the Dr at 7:30, but really, what else can they do?!? Anyone have experience in this? I just want the poor kid to be happy.
I weaned Ben to Neocate after BFing for 10 months on an elimination diet. It is NOT prescription only, but you do need to buy it behind the pharmacy counter. It is, however, way, way better to have a script for it. It is unbelievably expensive--$40 a can or so--and since I got B's covered by insurance I get 9 cans a month for free (not even a copay). I needed a note from a GI specialist to get it covered.
If you can't get it covered, you can buy it directly from Neocate online and they sometimes have coupons. I did that while I was lining up all the evidence I needed to get B's covered. GL!
One of them still has some milk protein in i even though it is hypoallergenic. We found that out from Reid's GI Dr.
Sometimes the blood is not from a milk protein allergy though, Reid had it in his stool from that but also it can be caused by the force of the BM and also from a fissure.
Also I have heard that there is a new prescription for Nutramigen AA. It is like Neocate.
If you need a GI Dr. We use an amazing one at UMASS. Also,I know you have dealt with allergies before but we have a GREAT Pedi one that we use in Leominster out of UMASS,
It is by script only. DD had milk protein issues. PM me if I can help out. She did grow out of it. ((hugs)) it sucks when the little ones have trouble
I think insurance covers it sometimes. and i think people buy it on ebay sometimes. IDK a whole lot about it except in allergy circles it's a common enough solution.
I am not a doctor obviously but if your son is still having these symptoms and with 2 other children with allergies.. if your doc doesn't go that route then I think you should get a second opinion. Everything you've posted about is just classic allergy stuff that should be obvious to your doc, too.

Aw, poor little guy. I hope the doctor can figure it out and help. Is he still crying all of the time? I hope it gets figured out soon for both of you.
DD #2 is on Neocate and has been since week 11. It was rough getting there but she has done great. she still has some skin breakouts but her stools never had blood again. We are onto foods now and having more issues. It will take time to get her digestive system to tollerate stuff. Good luck it wa stressful until we got to Neocate. I buy a lot of mine on Ebay. Mostly it is people that have leftovers...All of my can have been new. Mine wasn't covered by insurance, I live in FL. It is state by state. I fought hard to but it was denied.
Re: blood in stool even on hypoallergenic formula?
yes you may need to go to elecare/neocate.
Ugh, this poor kid. Where do you buy that?
