Can I turn a Pashmina into a carrier?

I have a pashmina that I never have used. I noticed that there are some carriers out there that are made from pashmina. The fabric seems like it would be perfect for a carrier. Can I convert it into a hotsling/sash type carrier to use for holding baby on my hip (upright)? How would I do this? Has anyone else done this? Or is this a crazy idea?

I'm pretty sure I've seen people use scarfs to rebozo with on their hips but I can't imagine it would be wide enough or supportive enough.  Well maybe wide...but mine are all pretty thin.  Anyway I've seen threads discussing it on TBW, you may want to post there and/or search and I'm sure you'd find some info.
