Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need nap advice for a 5 monther

Am I knocking myself out trying to get him to nap?

I am not even trying to schedule him, I am just trying to put him down when he looks sleepy.  He used to nap great and now is fighting naps even though he is completely exhausted. He is too big for the swing, and I don't want him napping on me, so the crib it is... and it is a daily battle.

Today it took me a hour and a half to finally get him to nap.  He has been sleeping for 30 minutes in his crib, with the white noise machine on, and he woke up once crying (I put the paci back in and he went back to sleep).

What do you ladies think?  Any advice/suggestions/snide remarks?

  • nap time goes through phases for us of being easy and hard.  I go by the theory that if she's crying really hard then I take her out and try again later.  I can't handle hearing the crying so I can't do CIO.  I say if naptime is taking you that long then maybe he's trying to kick one of the naptimes.  I remember we cut out a nap around 5-6 months.  Just something to consider.

  • I HAVE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES! I read the sleep easy solution and took a couple of things from it...(not the CIO part...that didn't work for us)

I timed his 1st nap about 3 hrs after he woke up...You may want to wait till 6mos to try that long of a time, but give it a try and see what happens. I also fed him his morning solids right before he slept...that combined with the white noise made the magic combination for us :) Basically DS naps every 3 hrs. But the feeding right before was the big missing piece for us :)

    HTH!

Funny you said that, because that is exactly what I did.  He got up at 8:15, nursed, played downstairs, had applesauce at 10, bottle at 10:15, looked really sleepy, so I tried to put him down at 10:30 with the white noise, and we battled it out from 10:30-11:50 when he finally fell asleep.

Maybe I will try waiting 3 full hours tomorrow after he wakes up and that will work better.
