Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone not giving their 10mo purees anymore?

I feel like I am still feeding him a lot of purees and not enough finger foods now that he is 10mo. His meals consist mostly of purees and oatmeal or multigrain. He gets bread and banana he can p/u himself. What else should I be giving him finger food wise? I know these food Q's are annoying, but I am really confused!! And now he is waking up at night and he seems hungry!?

Re: Anyone not giving their 10mo purees anymore?

  • I guess I'm doing BLW. G just doesn't want purees anymore but will eat almost any piece of table food I give him. The last two days I've been sending peas, carrots, potato, and chiken for his lunch at DC.

  • We give them eggs (Egg Beater), toast, bananas, mandarin oranges, peas, carrots (the kind we eat, not the pureed kind), biscuits, french toast, pancakes.

Ben had a grilled cheese at Panera Bread on Saturday!

They eat mostly 3rd foods for their meals now.

  • I stopped at 10 months. He doesnt want purees anymore. He is strictly on non pureed foods

  • My goal would be to have DD completely off purees by 10 mos.  BUt not sure if it will happen.  She is soing great on finger foods but there are plenty of veggies that she still won't touch.  So I keep giving her purees of veggies.  She loves feeding herself and in general I think she likes finger foods better, but thats the only way I can get veggies i her.  So I keep trying.  Of course she still gets 24ish oz of formula per day too.

Give him anything that is in the purees you give him... green beans, peas, cooked carrots, squash, pears, peaches...  then I introduce new things more slowly to make sure there is no reaction.  Like I have given her pieces of tortillas, rolls, and will probably try meats soon (have her 9 mo appt today and will likely get the "okay" on meats).

  • We do very little purees anymore.  He still has oatmeal for breakfast with either mashed banana, applesauce or a fruit puree.

We try to give him a veggie puree at lunch and dinner, but most of the time, he'll only take a few bites before refusing it or spitting it out.  He's more interested in finger foods, although he doesn't get much variety.

Finger food wise we do: waffles, pancakes, toast or mini bagels, cheese, Cheerios/puffs/mum-mums, pieces of banana, blueberries, pineapple or apple, pieces of lunchmeat, chicken or pork.  We have not had success with any veggies as finger foods yet.  He completely refuses to eat them, but we keep trying.

  • DS is only "finger fooding it" these days.  Morningstar veggies burgers are great if the LO wants crunch, but you want them to get that texture in the form of something other than puffs, cheerios, and other munchie stuff.  A friend of mine suggested putting them in the toaster oven to crunch 'em up and he devours them.  I suggest that brand because I noticed a lot of other brands are mostly fillers and veggies are super low on the ingredient list :)

  • The veggie burgers are not just good for crunch, but also to give LO a serving (or more) of veggies.  DS is still picky about which veggies he will eat in the finger food form.
