My bff is at Northside right now because her water broke (she's 39 weeks). : ) However she is only dilated like 1cm and they are going to start pitocin soon. They also said her pelvis is really small.
If you had pitocin, how long was it before baby was born? Also, do you think they'll have to do a c-section since her pelvis is small?
Re: Those who had pitocin
Pitocin was started on me at 3 am and Ava was born @ 11:51 pm. I was barely dilated to 1 cm when it was started.
Like the pp's indicate I think it could go either way for her.
My water broke at 39w2d. I got a talking to when I got to the hospital about my "unproven pelvis" and they could give me pitocin but they rec'd a c-section because the baby measured "big". I was 1 cm.
So, I guess the pitocin is common practice when your water breaks.

Also- as far as her small pelvis is concerned..I suppose it depends on the size of the baby's head and shoulders.

Me, too...only I got to 4cm...36 hrs after they "think" my water broke.
I had Pitocin with Carter. Started it at 12 noon, and he was born at 2:41am the next day.
I had a hard time getting Carter thru, but my doc was ADAMENT that I was not having a C-Section. It took 3 hours of pushing, but he finally came out, pointy cone head and all b/c he got stuck. I think it just depends on her Dr. Mine thought i could do it despite having a small pelvis, and he was right.
I will say that Carter was born at 37 weeks and was 6lb 2 oz. I barely got him out. If i had gotten any farther in my pregnancy, i probably could not have gotten him out since he would have been bigger.
With Emma they started pitocin at 2 cm. W/ Tess I had cervadil the night before and then started pitocin at 2 cm. Both started around 6 am and both girls were born before 2:00.
Pitocin started at 10 am. Fully dilated by 4 pm, had Alec at 5:49 pm.
I have 3 good friends with extremely small pelvis'--they are tiny tiny and all 3 delivered 3 kids vaginally without any issues.
My water broke at home with mecoinum but when I got ot the hospital I was having really irregular contractions. I was still 1cm which I was from 36wks on (I was 40wks 5days at this pt) and they started pitocin at 2pm. By 9pm we decided on the c-section b/c my pelvic area was still not spreading, B wasn't dropping and I was still 1cm. My pelvis was to small for my 9lb 12oz baby boy. I'm happy with my decision and I wouldn't change it. Oh and when they stopped the pitocin my contractions totally went away.
