Forgot pump parts!? Help

So, I forgot my pump parts today, which means I either a) have to drive round trip an hour an a half home to get them (not really possible as I have all day meetings) or b) not pump all day (LO ate at about 6am and I will not be able to get home to pump or feed him until 6pm).  He is almost 11 months old now so I am not that worried about getting so full that I am in pain but then again I have never gone this long without pumping or feeding him.

My main question is will this completely screw up my supply by not pumping for 12 hours?

  • You could always manually pump.  It sucks but it will relieve some of the pain.

  • For one day, no.  You can try hand expressing for 5 minutes or so during the normal times that you would pump but it's not going to completely kill your supply.
  • It shouldn't have any affect on your supply if it's just for one day. I just wouldn't pump. Do you have breast pads in case you leak?

  • which parts did you forget? I have the APY and was able to still pump a couple days that I forgot to bring the bottles. Could you single pump instead of double pump?

it wont completely screw up anything, but there is a lot of gray area in there. Can you get it during lunch or go home for lunch and pump once? 12 hours is a really long time esp. if you don't nurse at night anymore.

  • for one day you should be fine. i forgot my pump parts one day, and ended up taking a 1/2 day off of work. i was finally able to pump at around 2. my supply the next day was fine. i've also had days where i wasn't able to pump/bf DD for like 12 hours, and that was a bit much, but the next day my supply wasn't really too affected (DD did eat a bit more frequently though). this saturday i will be away from DD and w/out a pump for about 8 hours, but i'm not too worried about my supply the next day. if anything, DD will just want to eat more, which will def help w/any supply issues.

  • oh no!  sorry, my dear!  ideas for you:  google or look for youtube videos of hand expression.  or do you work anywhere near a target or walmart?  they sell cheap hand powered pumps.  also, some grocery stores will have those as well.  some womens hospitals have them for sale too, if there is one near you.

BUT... if you cant pump for 12 hours, it will be okay too.  if you can get a hand pump to use at lunch, that would be best, but if you can't, it will be okay!  just make sure to return to your usual schedule tomorrow -- you may need to add a few minutes to each pumping session to boost your supply back to its usual levels.  good luck!

  • Do you have a Target or BRU near you where you can buy an extra set of pump parts (depending on what you forgot)?  It's always nice to have extra parts anyways!
  • Run to target, buy a manual pump. I had to do this twice when I was working an hour away.
  • I have working meetings at lunch so going home is not possible.  My mom could bring it if I have to have it but hate to ask her to.
