Question about transitioning to cow's milk

I posted this on 12-24 already, but thought I would post here too.

DD will be 1 in about 3 weeks. I am still bf'ing but am slowly weaning now, so we are supplementing with some formula.

When is it ok to start introducing cow's milk? Do I have to wait until she is exactly a year or can we slowly start to introduce it the coming weeks? Is it ok to mix cow's milk with my pumped milk?

Just curious. We will finish off what formula we are supplementing with in about a week or two, and it would be nice not to have to buy more, but just use a combination of bm and cow's milk instead.

Re: Question about transitioning to cow's milk

  • I started last week and I do 2 ounces of milk and 6 ounces of formula. So i am sure its the same with BM. I am hoping to have him on milk 100% by his first birthday

  • My pedi told me to add an oz to his bottles starting 3 weeks before he turns 1.  (We BF but he has bottles at daycare).  After a week we can slowly increase the amount in his bottles until he's on 100% cow's milk.

  • My pedi was pretty adamant about them not having cow's milk until they're one.  Maybe call your pedi and ask?  It will take time to transition LO, so you may end up buying more formula anyway.
