At what age do I stop buying pureed or jarred food for LO? He does very well with finger food, but Im always afraid he is not getting enough when he feeds himself, most of the time he will just eat whatever I put on his tray until I stop giving him anymore food. So do I just pre measure the food and stop when its gone? I dont remember how I made the transition with my now 6 year old. What are you guys planning on doing?
Re: When to ditch the jarred food?
At our 9 month appt our pediatrician said to stop buying pureed baby food and do table food. So, that's what we're doing, just finishing up what we had left and offering whatever were eating.
He will let us know when he's had enough table food, he simply won't take anymore. So, I figure he's eating till he's full.
I am doing just what you are doing. I only buy a jar of baby food here and there to keep in my diaper bag in case we are someplace that does not have food she can eat (usually I can find something but it's my just in case jar)
I still give DD baby cereal for breakfast with mashed up fruit....that's the only thing I'm not sure when to stop giving her. I'm assuming since she has only 2 teeth and can't eat real cereal yet I will use it until she has more teeth.
I am also thinking about ditching the jars soon at home - though I'll probably still send them to day care with him. I'll keep on with the cereal for a while yet for the iron since DS is BFing still. He does much better with finger foods and gets frustrated eating off a spoon these days.
Premeasuring servings of table food sounds like a good plan - though I have no idea how much is enough. I guess we'll just wing it - trial and error.
Good Luck!!
