sleep schedule?

How and when did you create a sleep schedule?

I read about bedtimes from all of you and I just don't know how to go about getting G on a schedule. He is still eating anywhere between 2-4 hours. He is awake a lot more during the day than he was which is making evening/night sleep a little more unpredictable.

I would really love to have more of an evening routine that might give way to clues that sleep is coming but that old adage of "don't wake the baby" keeps playing in my head.

Do you wake the baby to start the routine?

Re: sleep schedule?

  • We have never done a sleep schedule.  We have taken his lead as to when is bedtime, and with each month it gets a little earlier (he is now sleeping from about 8pm-7am.  He is not a napper.  He may take two 30 minute naps a day, or a bunch of cat naps, but he is not a napper (neither are Mom or Dad).  I figure every baby is different, but we have taken his lead.  I have never woken him up, except for in the very beginning when we were having weight gain issues.  I think that he would have STTN from day one, if we had let him.

  • We didn't really put him on a schedule, but rather developed a nighttime routine. He was pretty clockwork on his feedings, so when it got to the point in the night when it could be bedtime, we gave him a bath, bottle, then read him a story and put him to bed. Baths really helped him settle down, and luckily he's got tough skin so we could do it every night.
