Anyone not having a first bday party?

Most of our family is out of state, and most of our friends in CA don't have/don't want kids.  And honestly, the thought of throwing LO a bday party and NOT having it be big and over the top, will just make me sad and miss my friends and family that live far far away.  Plus, I almost feel like a fun kid bday party would be wasted on my childless friends.  (hope that doesn't sound mean, they would just be happy with good food and alchohol and not the games and theme... like any other adult)

Anyone else in my boat?  How will you celebrate LO's bday?

We were thinking of just taking LO to Disneyland for her bday, even if she will still be too young to fully appreciate it.  Dland just happens to be really close to us.

Re: Anyone not having a first bday party?

  • We are doing a big bday party after DS's actual bday since our family all lives out of state.

SO for his actual BIG day, DH and I are taking him to the zoo for the first time. Just the three of us for the whole day. I'm more excited for that than his party, to be honest.

I think Disney sounds like an awesome idea!

  • I think Disneyland is a great idea!  If you can, would you be able to go see your family within a month or two of LO's birthday?  Maybe you can do a belated celebration.

  • We only know one other couple who have a baby....and they are toying with the idea of being out of town for a wedding right around DD's birthday.  So I don't know at this point.  It might just be a little get together with the grandparents to watch her attack a cupcake.
  • We discussed it & we're in the same boat - almost all of our family is out of state, so we'll just doing something quietly the three of us.
