My dietician and nurse are crazy

I know, I know...it's for my own good. But I have met w/ them twice now, and they want me to come back in a few weeks again. I'm like, ok it takes over an hour to meet w/ you guys, and I babysit...it's not real convenient! What else can you possibly have to tell me? If my #s suck I'll call...not much else to this right now, I've been doing really good.

They want me to fax my #s to the doc each week, except my doc never mentioned that I needed to do that...not to mention I don't have access to a fax, and again I BABYSIT at my house so I can't just jet off when I want to fax something.

They also want me to start not only wrirting my #s, but also writing how many carbs I ate...

I'm just getting annoyed, and ready to be able to eat w/o having to watch my food, watch the clock, etc.

Re: My dietician and nurse are crazy

  • Ugh I feel you.  Its only been a week for me.  I ate rather healthy to begin with but now having to write everything down and watch the clock is truly annoying.

  • I have had to go in every week.  One perk of going into the office is they give me samples so I don't have to fill prescriptions for insulin and the needles.  Do you have a scanner?  Perhaps you can scan your numbers and email them rather than faxing to make it a little easier.
  • I feel your pain.  I understand the NST twice weekly, and I'm looking forward to the additional ultrasound to check on size, but I felt like a lot of the first meeting with my dietician and nurse was a waste of time.  Frankly, they could have had me in for 30 minutes to show me how to use the testing kit and give me a handout on how many carbs to eat and let me go (instead of keeping me all morning).

I'm hoping my second appointment will be more useful since they have my numbers now (which have been pretty good).  But, I feel like I'm going to need to take a shorter maternity leave after LO is here because I'm taking all my time off now to deal with this.  If I have to go in a third time to take care of something I could do over the phone, I won't be happy.

  • I also understand.  I actually have stopped going to my Diabetic Educator because my insurance doesn't cover it and it is a waste of time.  I was calling her with the numbers and I am only diet controlled with no bad numbers unless I cheat so there is no reason to keep seeing her.  It is just unnecessary.
  • That is frustrating!!  After the first meeting my nurse said there was no need to come back unless I had major issues.  I email her my numbers once a week and my OB looks at my numbers during my appts.  That's it.  I'm at the point now where I make pretty much daily adjustments on my own and the nurse adds in any she thinks might help after looking at my weekly #s.
