Anyone ever hire a professional organizer?

Just a thought.  I wonder how expensive they are and if they are worth it.  As much as we try to be organized I think both DH and I are not very good at it.

Re: Anyone ever hire a professional organizer?

  • I had a friend who hired one about 10 years ago.  My friend worked out of a home office and hired an "expert" to organize her office and bedroom closets.  The fee for just the consulting was $800 for 2 rooms.  That did not include the shelving or any other organizational materials/supplies.
  • I did about 3 years back and it was seriously some of the best money I've ever spent!  The areas the person helped us organize (my closet!) is STILL in perfect, orderly condition (can't say the same for the rest of my house/life - lol).  I always intended to have her come back and do more, but life got busy ... sigh...

napo.net  is the professional organization website, and a great place to begin to look for a reputable person in your area to help you out (I wanted them to have been professional/committed enough to the field to be part of an organization/group - they're going through your house, I want to know something about them first!)

We paid about $60/hour in 2007 (4 hour minimum) - we accomplished a lot in that amount of time.

  • they usually charge about$ 50-$150 an hour.  And the website is:
