DH is on medical leave...

Starting today (his birthday, no less), DH is on medical leave from work.  He went to the doctor yesterday because he was feeling bad.  They did an EKG and it came back abnormal, and his blood pressure was also elevated.  They drew blood and took a urine sample and are going to run a full work-up.  The doctor said something about his thyroid.  He has to go back on Thursday to do a stress test.  But as of right now, he?s on leave until May.  He said he thinks it is all stress-related.  I?m very worried, not just about DH?s health, but about our family?s future if he can?t learn how to manage his stress level.  His goal has always been for me to be a SAHM, and he?s worked very hard to move up the ladder, which is part of the problem.  His position is usually filled by someone in their forties, and he?s only 29.  I think it?s a case of t00 much, too fast, but I?m still worried that he will want to change jobs or take a lower-paying position when we are so close to meeting our goals.  I know that?s selfish of me.  Flame away if you want.  I think I?m misplacing my worry because I don?t want to deal with the possibility of something happening to him, so if I focus on the potential ramifications with DH?s job, I won?t have time to go crazy worrying about DH?s health.  Either way, I?m scared.

Sorry this was so long.

  • That really sucks, no flame here!  I hope it is stress related (so he can fix it) and not something more serious.  Good luck, hope he's better!  Hey, he can enjoy some daddy-son time!!!

  • OH GOSH!

Same thing happend to my DH.. he was getting light headed at work somedays.

So he went in for a physical and told the doctor.. they did an EKG it came back abnormal right heart bundle or something along the lines of that... basically the message that your brain sends to your heart to pump like took a hot second of a break! so they did a heart monitor for a month..Everything came back normal.. we are pretty sure its his poor eating habits and love for mountain dew

And when I say abnormal eating habits Im talking 3 packs of candy in a day.. we go to godiva and he eats the candies like they are friggin hersheys...(hes no longer aloud to go there) he used to drink about 8 mt dews a day... by all this you would think he would be FAT.. heck no the guy is 6'4 and like 170lbs wet or something like that.. FRICK I look at godiva and my thighs get fat.

anyways best wishes to you and your dh Im sure everything will come back good :)

  • Such a tough situation. I hope he's better soon and that his illness won't interfere with the long term goals of your family. GL!

  • I hope everything turns out ok!

DH kills AT LEAST two of the 24-oz Diet Mt. Dews per day.  I've told him that it isn't healthy to drink that much soda, but he doesn't listen.  I'd rather him mainline black coffee than drink Mt. Dew.  He also eats random junk that he gets when he visits a store.  Hopefully this will get him back on a healthy eating kick.

You will have to keep us (or at least me ) hahah updated.. its weird that they both have an unfound love of mountain dew... also... all his bloodwork came back good. and only every once in awhile his BP would be elevated.. good luck to you guys!

  • Rand, I am so sorry to hear that about your DH. I know this is something you have both been working toward so on top of the added stree of his health you have this. I understand, no flames here. I hope they can figure out what is going on and can help him soon.

  • I'm sorry. I won't flame. DH has been having medical problems for a while, the last one landed him in the hospital for a week, plus he has to take time off. I don't want him going back to work until we're sure he's healthy, but it's hard not to stress about money/the future. DH's STD claim will take a while to process, plus he has to pay for the STD insurance and come up with money for COBRA payments, on top of worrying about hospital bills. Still, after all we've gone thru, I know I'd sacrifice anything for his and DS's health and safety, but I can totally understand placing worry elsewhere, the thought of anything worse is too terrifying to think about.
