GD Question re: Nighttime Snack

My fasting numbers were high, so they put me on Glyburide 2.5.  That worked for a while, but my numbers got high again even though I didn't change a thing and took my medication, so they upped my dosage to Glyburide 5.

I just took it for the first time last night, and tested myself around 3am.  I was pretty low, so I ate something.  I really don't want to have to make that an every  night thing.  Do you think adding more carbs to my nighttime snack may help keep my numbers up a little during the middle of the night?  I tested when I woke up and I was 85, so that was fine.  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

Re: GD Question re: Nighttime Snack

  • I was actually told more protein to avoid the low number in the middle of the night.  You need the carb too, but protein stays in your system longer so your blood sugar shouldn't drop.

Of course I'm still struggling with the nighttime snack on my 2.5 Glyburide so take it all with a grain of salt! =)

Also my first night on meds my 2am number was 64 (low but fine) and my morning number was totally fine (77 maybe?), so unless you were at 60 or something where you could dip into unsafe easily, I wouldn't worry too much.
