witch hazel "pads" for sore perineum

Hi Ladies,

I am due in 3 weeks.  I have been reading that I might want to buy witch hazel pads for post-natal perineum soreness.

Have any of you used those?

Did you freeze them or just wipe yourself with them?  I have read about freezing them...

Thanks in advance for replies.

Re: witch hazel "pads" for sore perineum

  • Target has witch hazel wipes that I used for pp hemroids. I had a c-section but still found them really helpful.

  • I put them on my pad in my undies. It made all the difference.

  • I know some people poured witch hazel on regular pads, rolled them and froze them.

I bought the Preperation H pads with witch hazl and wiped with those.  It helps a lot.

  • I put tucks in my pad... froze tucks in the pad too... and bought witch hazel cleansing wipes to clean up gently...

  • Get some dermoplast too while you're shopping.  I would spray down there with the dermoplast and then layer tucks pads on my pad and it would give me some relief.  I had an episiotomy and tore.
  • The hospital should give you some. Request extra before you leave! I put them on my pad, like peas in a pod. lol. I also agree with the Dermoplast spray. The hospital gave me that too. I have a 3rd degree tear and they both help with the pain!
  • My hospital gave them to me with my recovery bag.  Like other people said, they're great to layer on your pad from front to back to sooth all your sore spots.
  • I put the witch hazel pads in my pad. The nurse at the hospital told me that on the day they were discharging me to ask for a new container and I could just take them home, so that's what I did. Take all the advice the nurses give you, mine were the best! Good Luck!
  • Reading this is giving me painful flashbacks that I've tried to forget.... but yes! Use 'em and love 'em!
