I'm not worried, but... (TMI?)

Saturday morning when I stood up after eating some breakfast, I noticed the back of my pj pants were a little wet, about a 2 inch circle of clear fluid.  I immediately went to the bathroom to see if more fluid was coming out, but there wasn't any.  Because I was wearing lace panties without much of a lining, I assumed this was just my normal fluid (that's what it smelled like), perhaps just a little increase at that moment without enough lining to hold it in my panties.

Since then I have had no significant contractions (I always have occasional BH) and no leakage of fluid.  I've been fairly active, climbing the stairs up and down to the basement, going to a mom to mom sale and to a movie, and I've experienced no signs of labor.

The reason it's on my mind again is DH just called from work wanting a little reassurance that everything is fine.  We discussed it over the weekend a few times and both felt it was nothing, but I guess he got a little worried at work.  Now he has me second guessing myself.

I don't see my doctor until Thursday, and if I really thought this was a ruptured membrane/my water breaking I wouldn't wait until then.  I'm not really worried, but would you be concerned about this?

  • I had a increase at the end because of all the pressure (fluid and cm).  When your water breaks you should start to have contractions within 24 hours so since you are not, I would guess it is just normal fluid.  If you want to be safe, I would call your OB just to ask.  GL!

  • I had a few of these episodes around 34-35 weeks, especially after getting up from laying down for a while.  My Dr. told me that as long as fluid is not continuously leaking and the babies are moving normally, it is just discharge.  Basically, if it was fluid leaking, you would continuously soak a pad each hour.

  • I don't think I'd be worried about that if it hasn't happened again since that initial leak.  If you're really concerned you could always call your doc and describe what happened to see if they think it's worth coming in, but it doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

I know that these things happen differently for everyone, but when my water broke there was NO mistaking it.  It was everywhere.  It was comical to me when I arrived at the hospital and they said that they needed to test it to make sure it was fluid.  I soaked through like three pairs of pants and 8 pads, plus everything that went in the toilet (and on the floor, haha).  There was just no way it could have been anything else!

  • I also had this happen a few times and made mention of it to my doctor since I thought maybe it was amniotic fluid.  She didn't seem worried about it.  Plus the same day I had an ultrasound (already scheduled - normal procedure) and the tech looked and didn't seem concerned about it either.

It seems to happen when I'm on my feet and running around for longer periods of time.

I'd call your OB just to make sure.  Plus give you peace of mind.

Not sure if your OB told you this or not, but i'm not supposed to be on my feet for more than 2 hours at a time.

  • Thanks for the replies.  I really don't think it was anything to be concerned about since nothing has happened since.  All day Saturday I was half-waiting for contractions or serious fluid leakage, and nothing.

  • When my water broke with my first...aside from being un-mistakable in amount...smelled really salty like the ocean.  It was very different from normal discharge.  I'd probably still call because the test to see if it's amniotic fluid is super easy and would give you peace of mind!
