If you have a temporal thermometer-I need help!

We have the Exergen temporal thermometer.  Max is sick and I just took his temp.  It ranged from 102.6 to 104.4.  Do I just estimate its in the middle?  I don't have a back up thermometer to go to right now.

I thought I read to go with the highest reading, but I'm not sure.  I'm hoping not after getting 104.4!

  • I usually just keep trying until I get a consistent-ish reading (alternating between both sides of the forehead).  Hope he feels better soon!

  • Oh no!  Poor Max  :(  Hope it's just a quick thing and its over.

I have no experience with those things, I've only ever used a rectal thermometer.

  • I'm sorry I don't know either.  I hope he feel better and it's not actually that high.

  • Thanks girls.

I went back and tried again and still had ranging temps from 103.6-104.4.  I gave him some Tylenol and its down to 101.5 now.  Hopefully, it doesn't start creeping back up!

  • I have one of those and one side of dd's head always reads more than the other.  If it seems high, I usually do a rectal temp too.  I do love that thing thougth.
  • I put it behind the ear lobe, between the jaw and skull-the soft part there. Facing towards his inner ear. Do that a couple times and it should give you a consistant temp. Good luck I hope he feels better soon!!
