High-Risk Pregnancy

**Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**

Happy Friday to all!

Last week we started having a weekly Lovenox check-in.  It is a nice forum for us to be able to discuss our unique situations (injections, blood clots, inductions, etc.)  If this is your first week checking-in, please let us know why you are on Lovenox (which clotting disorder you have) and what your due date is if you are PG.

Also, let me know if you guys would like me to keep a list of who we are and what our due dates are...

QOTW:  What are your injection tips?  (Do you inject sitting or lying down?  Do you use a cold pack before or after?  How do you choose the spot?)

Re: **Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**

  • QOTD: My only tip is since I do my shots twice a day and they like you to alternate sides I do my morning shot on the left and "right is at night".  I use to have problems remembering which side I did and this has made all the difference in remembering.

Also, do you think we should make this a lovenox/heparin check-in or is there a seperate one for heparin?  I also think a list would be great that way anyone who is new can reach out to those of us who have been doing this for awhile.  Thanks for doing this.

I can't remember if I checked in or not but I have APS and started my lovenox an hour after I got my bfp.  Right now my edd is 11/8.

  • I also do my shots twice a day - right at night, left in the morning! I ice before and after, which helps my bruising, usually.  If I don't ice, I get massive bruises for sure.  When I inject myself, I sit or stand...but when my husband injects for me I lay on my side.  My only other tip is...let someone else do it for you at least sometimes, I don't know why, but it seems to take a huge burden off me when DH does it.
  • Yeah! I'm glad we have a check-in now!  Thanks for doing it.

I have MTHFR and my due date is 7/26.  I'll be switched to Heparin at 36 weeks.  I think a list of us all would be great.

QOTW: To give my shot I sit down and grab a bit of my love handle.  If I start to put the needle in and it hurts really bad I'll pick another spot.  Most of the time I can find a spot that doesn't hurt at all.  I switch sides everyday.  I do the same thing everyday, sometimes I get a bruise but most of the time I don't.

  • hbwj - I just noticed that you joined in 2003 and are still a "Newbie"!  So funny - I joined in 2002 and I'm still a "Newbie" too!

  • Hi

Thanks for starting the group! I am on Lovenox due to FVL Hetro and Mthfr. I had 2 mc's prior to this pregnancy... so far the Lovenox and BA are working! I am due 8/20 but I think they are planning on inducing me at 38 wks.

Luckily, I only have to do one injection a day. I alternate sides,or at least I try to. Sadly, I tend to forget which side I did it on the night before!!! I ice prior to injection and typically inject in my lovehandles or anywhere I can pinch! My husband can't bear to even watch me do it so he's not much of help when it comes to this!

Ha! Yea, I joined a long time ago for the knot but never posted much.  After I got married I didn't log back in until we started trying to get pregnant.  Now that I'm pregnant and can't think about anything other than baby stuff I'm on the bump a lot.  I'll probably be a newbie forever though.

  • Hi!  I'm on lovenox because I had a pulmonary embolism when DS was born in Dec '08.  I got pregnant with this baby with an IUD so to say it was not planned is an understatement!  haha:)  Right now I do one lovenox a day (40 mg), but will go up to 2 when I switch to heparin.

We really weren't planning on having any more kids because of what happened with DS, so I wasn't mentally prepared for the shots, but all seems to be going well.  I am really excited about our new addition!

  • sorry i am late checking in! i am doing one lovenox shot a day, for three more weeks then i switch to 2 a day with the heparin.  i actually do my injection standing up - no ice or anything just cringe and do it as quick as i can to just get it over with. my love handles are the only place i can really "pinch and inch" for the injection with my big belly now :) i used to bruise up a little bit about the size of a dime or so, occasionally a bit worse, but the last 4 weeks or so for some reason i haven't really bruised at all and by the next morning i can barely tell where the previous days injection was.  not sure why since i really haven't done anything differently.
  • I started Lovenox a week ago tomorrow.  I have MTHFR and my DS was born at 29 weeks with severe IUGR due to clots in the placenta.  I do one shot at night. DH is a RN so he gets to give them to me.

One trick he taught me is to leave it in for 10 minutes after injecting.  Seems to keep the bruising away, so far at least!

  • Hi girls- I have MTHFR and lupus anticoagulant...I take Lovenox 40mg/day once a day.  I switch sides and give the shot in my love handles or butt...as far back as I can reach.  :)

I'll be switched to Heparin at 36 weeks and will be induced around 39 weeks or so.
