Babies: 0 - 3 Months

? for C-section mammas

My doctor said that I can lift my baby and I can lift my car carrier, but I cannot pick up my carrier with the baby in it.  I'm limited to things that weigh less than my baby, so even the stroller is too heavy at this point.  I'm thinking of getting one of those front carriers to use when I have to go to appointments and those types of things that DH won't be with me.  What are you using?

Also, how long did your doctor tell you not to do heavy lifting?  I believe she'll clear me at my 6 week appointment, but I guess it could be longer.

Re: ? for C-section mammas

  • My follow up is at 2 weeks b/c I had complications but she told me not to lift anything other than the baby...Even the carrier is too heavy...I will have someone going with me,because I'm not allowed to drive, to his check up tomorrow so they will have to do the heavy lifting.

  • Not going to lie. I ignored the doctors orders on the carrier and stroller. I've tried to avoid going anywhere alone so that I don't have to, but there has already been a few occasions that I've had to. I'm off my pain meds already, and it doesn't hurt when I pick up the carrier. I've been careful not to lift anything else though
  • I can't lift anything over my baby for 6 weeks. When I  need to go some were and no one can come help me I have a moby wrap and it works wonderful.
  • My doctor said not to lift anything except the baby for 2 weeks.  DH was home during that time and my mom was here as well, so I was able to avoid carrying the car seat and stroller.
  • I was told 4 weeks as well but that just wasn't practical for me. I have an 18 month old that I had no choice but to lift here and there. I carried the car seat with DD in it after about a week and a half.

  • I was told a minimum of 2 weeks. I was ok to try things after that. I really listened to my body and what it could handle and was just extra careful to not overdue it. If you do not have to... don't.
  • I was told 4-6 weeks.  Since I had a 19 month-old I only waited 2 weeks.  She is at least 26 pounds.  I was just careful to lift with legs.
  • I was cleared to drive after one week.   At my 2-week appointment doc gave me okay to lift carrier with baby and do whatever but use common sense and stop if it hurt.   At my 6-week I was cleared to do whatever including any type of exercise.

  • I just didn't lift anything except for the baby for the first 2 weeks. Then I was allowed to lift him in the carrier, the stroller, etc.

  • I was told not to lift anything heavier than the baby in the carrier until 4 weeks. ?I cheated and lifted something heavy (my son got hurt) and I think I'm going to REALLY regret it. ? But I've also regularly been lifting my 1 yr old. My lifting restrictions are up at 4 weeks according to the hospital discharge papers.
  • I was told to lift nothing other than my baby for 2 weeks.
