Help-DS wont nap in crib!

I've been trying to get DS to nap in his crib during the day to get use to sleeping in it but he wakes up immediately and will not go back to sleep.  I try leaving him in there hoping he will fall back asleep but he either talks to himself or fusses until I go in there and get him.  At night he is sleeping in his PnP bassinet but will soon outgrow it, I've tried the mat of the PnP also but he does the same thing.  Any tips on getting him to snooze in there?

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I'm curious to hear responses. She's going to outgrow her bassinet soon.

Right now we warm her bassinet with a heating pad before putting her down asleep. I haven't tried that for the crib yet, but plan on it next week (next week starts naps in the crib and then a few weeks later we'll put her in her crib at night).

Maybe you should try putting him in there at night. We don't use our crib yet, but DS is much easier to get down to sleep at night than he is for naps. To make it even easier, you might try letting your LO fall asleep in the P&P and then moving him to the crib after a night feeding when he's still pretty drowsy. Work up to napping in the crib.

  • I tried to get my LO to nap in her crib during the day first (before nighttime.)  This did not work for us.  Due their being more light, she would nap for 20-30 minutes and then her little eyes would pop open and she would fuss.

Instead (about 2 weeks ago) we tried sleeping in her crib overnight, instead of her bassinet. She literally went to bed around 10 and I didn't see her until 6 or 7.  (We never looked back.  She has done that every night since then.)

I am back to working on naps during the day.  Now she will tolerate going in her crib, but still doesn't sleep for an extended nap.  She naps for 20-30 minutes and then looks around and plays for an additional 30 minutes.

    Hmmmm...maybe we'll try this, too...

  • Ditto the nighttime thing. DS sleeps in his crib at night but doesn't won't nap in there either. We are carseat or bouncy chair nappers in this house. I wouldn't be afraid of nighttime crib sleeping though. It is really nice.
