Summer Babies

Not sure if you've thought about this or had experience with another summer baby.  My husband and I blast the air conditioning in the summer months - he gets hot very easily and I cannot sleep if I'm sweating/hot.  Our baby is due July 4th and it will be hot day and night.  I'm concerned about having the AC on with the baby in our room, we've been thinking about a ceiling fan that wouldn't directly hit the baby.  Any thoughts?

DD was born in Feb, so she was already 5 months in July, but we had the AC going the whole time. I would think AC is safer than a ceiling fan, since direct wind causes the babies to hold their breath, supposedly. We didn't have an issues with running the AC and will do the same for LO.

We have the same due date!!! That's a really good question I didn't even think about the AC...my room has to be cold in order for me to go to sleep. I can't stand being hot and trying to get some rest. Hopefully someone answers this question so that I may know as well...

Holy duplicate post!!!! I'm so sorry about that! I do not know what happened!

I was saying the my brother and sis in law have central air and they keep it on all summer, so thier hosue is comfortable, but they did not add any extra fans, etc to the baby's room.

My daughter was born July 12th.  I had a fan on in our room, but other than that, we were fine.

My daughter was born June 17th which happened to be the hottest week of the summer here last year.  We ran the AC all summer though and just kept her swaddled so that she was still warm.

Keep baby in footie pajamas. Try one of these. If you're still worried, tell your hubby to suck it up. I mean, a grown man won't scream and cry if he gets too hot / cold. 

I think the rule of thumb is that baby needs one more layer than you do to stay comfortable. If you have a tank and are fine, baby needs a sweater...etc.

DD was born in April, and we lived in Florida.  We had the AC on, dressed her in a warm footed sleeper, and then swaddled her in a light receiving blanket.  We also made sure she wasn't in a direct draft of the AC.  Our pedi told us, if the baby is cold, she would cry/fuss.  The bigger concern is over-reacting to cold and dressing baby too warmly, which is associated with a higher risk of SIDS.  Fans/circulation in general are supposedly associated with a lower risk of SIDS, although we didn't use one.

I wouldn't stress.  Just dress the baby in a long sleep and play or somthing if you are concerned.  My hubby and I are alwasy hot so when we had our DS it was winter and our house to most people was alwasy cold.  We just made sure he was dressed warm and all was good so I think it would work just the opposite for you just dress warm and feel free to keep it cool!

DS was born July 18th.  Our bedroom doesn't get very good air circulation from our regular house AC, so we have a window unit in there.  Everything was fine.
