Our doorbell rang a little bit ago. DH went to answer it but couldn't see anyone out the peephole. He went ahead and opened the door. It was the little boy from across the street (3, maybe 4 years old). The mom needed help. She had slipped when putting her handicapped DD in the van. She had her propped up but couldn't get her in. Her DD can't use her legs and I think she only has limited use of her arms (if that). She is mid-late teens. I don't see how the mom lifts her everyday. The mom is maybe 100lbs soaking wet. DH said the DD was heavier than he thought because she is a lot of "dead" weight. We don't know them really well but they are always friendly and nice. We think there are some *sketchy* things that go on over there but don't know for sure. I can't imagine what they go through everyday with DD. I'm really glad DH was home and could help. Kind of puts my petty problems in perspective.
Re: just when you think you have problems. . .
That is awful. I'm glad your DH was there to help.
My stepdad's sister is disabled and his 86 year old mom refuses to hire someone to help HER care for her. There are times when the sister will fall and the mom can't get her up and Stepdad has to hurry from Jersey to Brooklyn to help them. Its not an easy life.
That's so sad. It's amazing to me what some people are able to handle. I'm glad your DH was able to help.
It also makes me wonder if my 3 yr old would know to go to a neighbor's house if I were in trouble. Maybe in this case, the mom told her son to ring your bell, but it still makes me think.
