Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Would you change her?

I'm typically a "let sleeping babies lie" kind of mom and I don't wake her up to change or feed her. I figure when she's uncomfortable she'll let me know. However, she just fell asleep on my lap and I felt (and smelled) her poop. She usually sleeps from now until 2:30....I should change her, shouldn't I?

*sigh*

Cross your fingers that she doesn't wake up...

  • I changed her.....and false alarm.

Ugh. I could have sworn I felt poop. Must have been just a stinky toot. She's pretty much asleep still....but I'm going to hold her for a few more minutes...

That's when you wait a few minutes to see if the smell lingers. Toots don't linger as long as poop does.

She bested me yet again. This little girl is going to test my patience, lol

I've been in the same situation. That's a toughy one. I would let her sleep. When it bugs her she will wake you up.

  • I am so happy that my little man has started holding his bowl movement until morning and the diapers keep him dry so he isn't uncomfortable enough to wake up when he pees.

I try to wait awhile anyway. When I change his poopy diaper right away, half the time he isn't done yet and ends up pooping all over the changing table, or the new diaper, or my hands. I don't fall for that one anymore.

  • I say don't wake the sleeping baby!!!!  Then again I have a total crankpot who never sleeps!!

  • When this happens, I just wait until LO wakes up, and am extra liberal with the Desitin.  I figure if he was in his crib sleeping, I wouldn't know until he woke up, so I just let him sleep.

  • Here's what someone told me when I had that question and was changing DS all the time (at first): when they are older and sleeping through the night- you won't be waking them then, right?

So, since then- even if I know he's pooped but has fallen asleep- I let the little guy be.  I haven't run in to any issues with diaper rash yet.  I usually put a little powder on him when I do change him to help prevent that type of situation.  ?? I'm still a new Mom but that's my theory right now. :)

  • Poop is more acidic and can lead to some of the worst diaper rashes if they are left unchanged.  I learned that one the hard way.  :)
