High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta accreta...?

So I posted this on 2nd tri, too, but I figured I'd ask here also. Has anyone else had any experience with this? I had my big U/S today, and the tech thought she saw something "a little funny with my placenta". She's worried about placenta accreta, which means the placenta starts to grow into the uterine wall. She tried to reassure me that it probably looked ok, but they're sending me to see MFM on Friday. Of course, the Internet is awful and tells me that basically I'm going to bleed out and lose my uterus or die. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or had any experience...?

TIA

Re: Placenta accreta...?

  • I don't have personal experience but a friend of mine did. She had placenta accreta with 2 of her 4 pregnancies and placenta previa with all of them. Each pregnancy she was on bedrest (mostly due to the previa) starting around 32 weeks. All babies were delivered by c-section. The second pregnancy was her first accreta and she and the baby did fine. The last pregnancy was also accreta and she did have to have a hysterectomy with that one. Also the placenta grew into her bladder and caused major havoc there. BUT the good news is that she did well and had 4 healthy children. Accreta doesn't necessarily mean hysterectomy every time. I wouldn't worry until the MFM comfirms it.
