dumb question - does an ectopic pregnancy count as a 'pregnancy' for hospital forms?

I am filling out pre-registration forms for the hospital and it asks "total number of pregnancies, including this one".

Is an ectopic pregnancy a pregnancy? I am guessing not but wonder if anyone knows for sure.

Thanks!

To me pregnancy = fertilized embryo implanting (no matter where).  So, I would classify your ecpotic as a pregnancy.
  • yes

  • Yep. I had a blighted ovum and that is considered a pregnancy as well.

Yes it is still a pregnancy. Something was still growing, just in the tubes. I think the only thing that wouldn't count is a chemical pregnancy because that is not actually a LO

  • All of my doctors/technicians refer to this as my second pregnancy, my first being an ectopic.

Ah - I think my confusion stemmed from the fact that I did IVF and for their statistics on success rates, an ectopic pregnancy is not considered a confirmed pregnancy, eg it is not included in their pregnancy rates.

Gotcha. I can see where that would confuse you. Ok, I'll say this then :P. I know that my doc considers ectopic as a true pregnancy. She also considers a chem preg true. But you can always just put yes, I've had one. They generally ask what the outcome was.. and they can decide from that what to put in your chart.
