for your numbers to start decreasing after you started your diet?
I went for my consult today at the diabetes center and wasn't so great for breakfast - my 2 hour fasting number was 147. I was just curious as I would like to control this with my diet if possible. My 3 hour numbers were terrible in comparison to where they should have been.
TIA
Re: GDer's - How long did it take
mine were fine from the very beginning.
Are you maxing out your carbs? That could be the issue. Even though they say you can have a certain amount you may need to cut that back for your body. Like I was told 25g-30 carbs for breakfast and I only have 10g. If I had 25-30 I'd go over every single day. For lunch I was told 45-50g and I don't usually go over 35-- today I only had 25g carbs with lunch. Also make sure you're having enough protein to offset the amount of carbs you're eating. GL!
My numbers have been pretty well controlled right off the bat, once starting the diet. I've had a couple of spikes, after eating meals with the max number of allowed carbs, or eating foods they warned me tend to cause higher levels (pizza). I wasn't testing after meals prior to starting the diet though.
I'm not sure you can compare the levels from your three hour glucose tolerance test to testing after your meals. There are a lot of things about the test that don't translate into real life situations. For example, the glucola is basically pure sugar, but when you eat a meal you're balancing carbs with protien and fat which helps process the carbs. Also, at the GTT test they tell you not to move around much or be very active, and movement/exercise helps bring down your numbers.

I'll tell you, mine were not fine from the beginning. I had some great numbers here and there, but for the most part mine were high. My doctor put me on the pills to help regulate it. So far so good.
Hope you can control yours by diet! Good luck!
This word for word! But for me my fasting #'s are always fine.
I think a lot of people are told that if they aren't gaining weight or are losing too much weight. Or that they are feeling hungry all the time, having sugar lows causing them to feel real bad. I've been gaining steadily so cutting out some carbs hasn't been an issue.
This. I have finally got back to my weight that I was at 22w. OB wanted more calories no matter what my numbers are. It took a bit to get over that in my head and realize that insulin was needed.
Thanks for all the replies ladies - my lunch number was much better (109 - goal is below 120). I agree with all the carbs they told me to eat, I wonder how I am supposed to eat that many in a setting. It almost seems like too much to me, but since I am still learning, I will be able to see what makes my sugars high.
I have been trying to write out my meals for the week and it is taking me FOREVER! But, if I do this, in the long run it will be very helpful and I figure if I take one day a week to do this and prepare as much of the foods as possible, it won't be too bad.

meal planning helps a lot. I agree it's a pain, but it really does help.
