2nd Trimester

Question: 16 week ultrasound tomorrow

I am having an ultrasound tomorrow to check my cervix and we will also get a look at the baby.  They are doing an internal ultrasound.  Will an internal give us a better view of the baby than an outside ultrasound at this point?  I have never had an outside one, only internal so far.  Will we be able to see more?

And internal will give you the best view of your cervix to get adequate measurements.

You may or may not get decent pictures of the baby.

  • I had a cervix u/s at 16 weeks.  We could see the head of one baby near my cervix, but not much else.  They then switched to an abdominal scan to get a better look at the twins.

I think with a singleton they will be able to see most of the baby via transvaginal u/s, but I'm not sure if it will be a complete look.  With twins we definitely needed the abdominal scan because my uterus was already up past my belly button.

    Good luck tomorrow!

  • I believe it will! I had an internal u/s at 6 weeks i day to make sure everything was good to go after my pregnancy test came back positive. (And at the point we were able to see the baby and see it's heart beating!) Good luck.
