Sleeping on the floor?

For the past year or so...Raleigh has occasionally made herself little beds on the floor. For the past few months it's been more and more often. Now it's almost every night. She takes her pillow and her blanket and her doll and just curls up on the floor. I don't think she *doesn't* like her bed...but I'm not sure why she prefers the floor.

Re: Sleeping on the floor?

  • I'm sure it's just a nesting thing with her. I would say go with it if she appears to be getting all the rest she needs.

If she seems tired and cranky in the mornings (aside from the usual morning grumpiness), you might want to consider a plan of action. Everyone around here seems to like reward systems with toddlers. I dunno. Good luck, though!

ETA: I dug around a little online and some moms were saying it's a freedom thing. Y'know, she does it because she CAN. Someone else mentioned getting one of those bed tent things to make the bed more like a hidey-hole that Raleigh would want to stay in. I still say leave her be if she's happy about things. She'll migrate back eventually.

  • I remember my nieces going through this stage because they think it was funny and cool like camping. It might just be a phase. If she's getting the rest she needs, I would probably not worry about it too much. Hopefully, she'll go back to her comfy bed soon! If she has enough sense (LOL! I'm just kidding....hope you don't take it the wrong way. That's what my SIL and I said about our nieces).
  • Awww, I formed the sweetest picture in my mind of her gathering up all of the important stuff and snuggling down. Cute.
  • I wouldn't worry about it.  Connor actually sleeps on a mattress on the floor.  Lately bedtime because a stressful event and we couldn't realize why.  We noticed that if we put him in our bed after fighting for hours he would magically sleep without any problems.  Therefore when we were tired with getting him to his crib we would just throw him in our bed and he would roll over and go to sleep and we would go about our business until it was time for us to go to bed.  Then one day we decided to take the mattress out of the crib and bingo that was the trick.  Now bedtime is a lot more pleasant for us.  We figured he didn't like sleeping in his crib because I'm sure he felt like he is trapped in a prison and would scream bloody murder.  I'm sure he didn't feel the need to sleep in a crib at home when he sleeps on a cot at school.  I say whatever works and makes her happy as long as she is safe go for it.  I guess they want their independence and freedom as well.
