I lost my first baby at 21 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. When I got pregnant with DD I had a cerclage done right at the tail end of my 1st tri/beginning of my 2nd tri. I can't remember how many weeks exactly though. DD is 8 1/2 years old now. My current doctor is recommending we do it at 15 weeks. He does not like doing it too early. I am reading online it is done around 12-14....I want to say with DD I was withing 12-14 weeks.
When did you have yours done/will you have yours done? How many days of bed rest did your doctor require? My next appointment is on March 29 (10 weeks) and we will discuss this. I will also be referred to the perinatologist to discuss this with him as well. Just thought I would ask here to listen to your stories.
TIA
Re: anyone getting/got a cerclage?
I am not currently PG but here is what has happened with my previous 2 pregnancies.
#1-When I was 24 weeks PG, my dr. discovered I was 4 cm dialated and he could touch my bag of water. I was admitted into the hospital and he put in an emergency cerclage. I delivered at 32 weeks because my water broke.
#2- I had my preventative cerclage put in at 13 weeks. I carried her until 33 weeks when she was born because her growth was slowing down.
If I get PG again, my perinate said he would do the cerclage at 13 weeks.
Well, I have had a couple of procedures on my cervix in the past, including the LEEP. So that was my risk factor but the diagnosis came through a perinatologist with an ultrasound. Not everyone who has had a LEEP or other procedure has IC.
with my first pregnancy (twins) i had an emergency cerclage at 19 weeks, but only made it to 24 weeks.
this time i had the cerclage placed at 13 weeks and it will be removed in one week!
i was only on bedrest following the procedure (this time) for about 5 days. i was put on maternity leave and "take it easy" rest at 29 weeks due to shortening cervix and pressure.
imo, as long as my cervix length was ok, not having pressure or other complications, i would probably trust my doctor - but you should do what you feel is right for you.
as I mentioned in my post, I lost my first baby at 21 weeks and was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. It was short and my water ended up breaking due to the pressure and short length of my cervix and the fact that my cervix was dialting. so with DD the doctor did the cerclage to avoid what happened the first time and I had a great pregnancy, no problems and was not put on bed rest, just restricted activity. GL to you.
I had cone biopsy (similar to LEEP) and am worried. I have had no indications of a problem yet, but I know I am at risk. My midwife or doctor have not checked my cervix and I am 18 weeks. Is IC something they should check for or just wait to see if symptoms develop? I asked my midwife at my last appt and she said they would measure my cervix at my 20 week u/s, but I felt uncomportable waiting so I made an appt with my doctor. The appt is tomorrow... thanks for the info!
I just got a permanent cerclage placed two weeks ago. It's abdominal surgery, so I'm off work for 6 weeks, but honestly, I feel like I could go back to work now if I had to. They put it in at 10 weeks as a preventative measure.
My cervix is too high for them to reach vaginally, so this was my only option. If a transvaginal one had been an option, he would have placed it around 12 weeks.
Last time my cervix started funneling at 19 weeks, shortening at 20 weeks. They weren't able to place a transvaginal cerclage at the time so I ended up on bedrest, which obviously didn't work for me.
