Need Shoe Help!

I'm not sure if it's because I was moving all weekend or just because I'm getting bigger, but all of a sudden my feet are extremely swollen! I have always had really wide feet but normally a wide shoe fits just fine (like the ones from Payless). Yesterday after work my feet hurt so bad from the heels that I had been wearing that I immediately went to Payless, knowing that I could get a 7 1/2 and the world would be well again! Not so! No matter what size I tried not even a wide would go on my fat foot! Even the flip flop styles wouldn't work because my foot hung over the side. I finally found one pair that I could get on and that weren't insanely painful so I bought them. This morning, I couldn't even get them on!!! Where the heck am I supposed to buy shoes??? Do any of you ladies have this issue? What did you do?

Re: Need Shoe Help!

  • I am a total shoe whore and have tons of heels for work that DO NOT work for me anymore.  First, I would say wear LEATHER, not synthetic shoes, you will be more comfortable right off the bat. I would also generally steer clear of Payless and try to purchase a little higher quality shoe.  I have also switched to a half size larger and done mostly wedges and flats and have felt much better!

  • Yikes, I'm sorry mama! Thankfully I haven't experienced this wonderful side effect yet.

I don't have any shoe tips, but I do have an idea for reducing the swelling. My yoga teacher taught me this one when my husband shattered his heel. His swelling was UNREAL, but doing this 2x a day for about 5 minutes made things so much better.

  • Awesome thanks ladies!

Also, I would love to find some higher quality, real leather shoes that fit, but I feel like they don't exist! Where would you recommend looking for some that come really wide?

  • I would start at a place like DSW that way you have a ton of options and you don't have to bother a sales person to bring you ever option.

They have wide styles but it would also be easier to try on larger sizes too. I have found that some of my shoes don't fit unless I go up a size. I was a 10 to begin with...Indifferent. Thank goodness it's almost flip flop season here.

  • I don't think you are going to find the width you want at most bricks & mortar stores, I would recommend going on Zappos or Endless and searching for a D or E width (you can usually print out the measurement page and check which you are) and order accordingly.  I also have wide feet, and like you I can generally either get a 6.5 wide or 7 B, but now I'm definitely feeling the pinch, although I still have some shoes, mostly heels, that fit and are comfortable.  I'm really looking forwrd to warm weather when I can wear something that isn't so constricting.

  • I LOVE shoes...they are my biggest vice.  That said, I haven't worn a sexy pair of kitten heels in months.  Probably my biggest pregnancy complaint.  Yesterday I saw a woman who was 7 or 8 months along wearing the sexiest 4 inch heels.  I wanted to cry.

But I digress.  I actually went to the local Nordstrom's Rack and found some black Crocs that look a little like clogs.  I feel totally clunky, but they are a HUGE improvement.  My hips don't hurt as much, when my feet swell they accommodate and I can comfortably go up and down stairs.  Prior to the Crocs I wore Sooft brand flats but eventually they didn't provide enough support.

Soon I'm planning to go completely tennis shoes.  I love my Nike's and they are by far the most comfy.
