Mattress questions

I'm in the process of looking for a mattress for my daughter's BGR and I'm totally clueless.  What do you look for in a child's mattress?  Also, any suggestions on places to look for good prices on mattresses?  Thanks!

we just bought my son's.  We went with a pretty inexpensive set - not the cheapest but the next level up.  Really the only way to do it is go into the stores and sit on them.   For us, the lowest level was really bad and I wanted something that I wasn't going to have to replace in 2-3 years.  We ended up with a decent mattress from Mattress Discounters.  (They're owned by sleep train but with better prices).
