FIL's rude comment

My husband's dad came up to visit this weekend and I have never had a problem with him before.  I look forward to seeing my husband's family, when we do get to see them, as they live about an hour and a half away from us.  His dad is outspoken, and I think going through a bit of a midlife crisis.  But he made a rude comment to me this weekend and it is still bugging me, just need to vent about it!

 We went out for pizza and while we were getting up to leave, he looks at me and says "You just don't look right pregnant!!!  Midgets aren't supposed to have babies!"

 UMMMM...WHAT???  Granted, I am very tiny (4'10) but I'm not a midget.  And even if I WERE a midget, there are plenty of dwarfs and little people who get pregnant!  As IF I'm not already having body issues, THANK you for pointing out how short and squat I am looking these days.  Sorry I am not one of the tall thin blonde bimbos that you date.  I haven't even told my husband how much this comment bothered me.  I luckily don't have to see him that often, hopefully by the time I see him again I will have simmered down.

That was very rude of him.  I don't understand why some people think it's okay to say things like that to pregnant women--joking or not.  If it were me, I would definitely tell DH how much it bothered you.  It may bother him as well and he may want to address it with his dad even if you don't want to.

You have more restraint than I do. There are so many things wrong with what he said to you. First off, it is just plain rude. Second off, most little people/dwarfs find the word 'midget' incredibly offensive. What a jerk off.

why would he think that was okay to say?  men are so dumb sometimes!  I'm short too and I think I look cute pregnant...don't listen to the stupid man and his stupid comments, lol.

i have come to realize how judgmental people are of pregnant women. you are either too big or too small - what is wrong with people, you are growing a child!!

I'm right there with you on the height... think I got you beat by about 1/2" though!  That would have made me so mad.  When I had barely even gained any weight, my FIL told me that my neck was getting fat.... pretty sure I was still under 100lbs!  I was pissed!  And let him know how upset I was.  You have more control than me!

I feel your pain!  im dreading having to drive 4 hours to see my inlaws. my MIL is ok, but my FIL drives me NUTS!  i can already picture him calling me Fat,  (jokingly, im sure), but i'm still small aside from the bowling ball i have in my belly. I've only gained 9 lbs so far.  but he's the kind of guy who says things like "IT'S UP" when i get up in the morning. he says this everytime im there..  He pisses me off, even when im not around him.. (haha, im pretty hormonal today, huh?)
