Is there a reliable online source for researching daycare centers? The ones I keep finding are either lacking info, outdated, or dodgey. I have no idea where to begin. :-(
I did all of my research (as far as what centers to visit) based on the information I got from friends/ coworkers that have children in daycare in the area. It was great to hear opinions directly from parents that currently use the center.
I'm sure there is a reliable website but I don't know what it is - sorry.
Not sure about Jerz, but here I contacted the Department of Education which referred me to my local county branch. I contacted the county branch and they sent me an in-depth referral list of in-home and daycare centers which they rated and included prices. Though I haven't contacted any yet, I will primarily go off that list since it seems like a legitimate referral system. GL!
I have found that this is very local. I live in upstate New York and was given a website that lists licensed home and center daycares. I also found a website that tells you of any violations (that one was given to me by a day care center). Both these websites are for my local area.
I found it most helpful to ask around. I asked all my co-workers/friends who have young children and live in my area. I was given some good leads this way.
The best I can advise is to look up your state's DHS website. You should be able to look up childcare based on what days/times and ages you need. Anything listed is licensed and it will show you if they have any violations and what they were. It will not tell you prices though. And yes, craigslist is a good place to look, a lot advertise there.
