Constipation after whole milk

Did you experience constipation in your LO when you made the switch?  If so, how did you deal with it?  We finished our 1st day of 100% whole milk, with the last two days being a mixture of formula and milk.  We have tried to up the amount of fruit in their diet to help the constipation.  Not sure what else to do.

DS gets really bad constipation with whole milk and even 2% milk. Right now, he gets half 1% milk and half soy milk.  We tried everything...fruit, prunes, a little juice and nothing worked.

Yes, we've had HORRIBLE issues with constipation and whole milk. We switched to 2%, and DD gets 1/2 capful of Miralax in apple juice daily. It has worked wonders! We also do our best to make sure she's drinking plenty of water.

Maybe decrease the amount of milk? Our pedi told us no more than 16 oz per day.

We had issues too, but most times he seems ok. There are still days when he gets constipated, but prunes usually work for him.

We completely switched to soy milk for about three months. At K's last pedi visit a week ago, the pedi said to start mixing whole milk in at 18 months, but I have been doing it now and she hasn't had the constipation issue like she did last time.

My DD had horrible constipation with whole milk (was breastfed before we offered whole milk).  She would scream in pain when she would have a BM.  We tried Miralax for a month or two and that helped - pedi told us to use 1/2 cap full in her first morning drink.  After a few months, we figured that she may have a dairy allergy.  We eliminated dairy from her diet and she's like a whole new kid with no issues anymore.  She's now on soy milk and doesn't get any other dairy.  It's definitely worth a conversation with the pedi, but it may just take some time to get used to.  Good luck!

Yup, it took a few weeks and then she was fine. I fed her prune, peach and pear purees and prune juice.
