Trying to Get Pregnant

I'm a virgin

A make-up virgin, that is. I confess...I don't even own make-up, other than the concealer I keep in my car to cover up the circles under my eyes on my way to work. And, I only use that occasionally. The only times I've worn make-up we prom and my wedding, and both times I had it done for me.

So, I have a concert to conduct, and I'm thinking a little 'adult' make-up might be a good idea (I've been told I look like one of my 12 year old students).

Help a girl out. What are my make-up must haves, and where to get them?

Re: I'm a virgin

  • I would suggest hitting up a make up counter at the mall (in Macy's or something similar). They often do free makeovers, where they will teach you how to do the makeup yourself. Of course they want you to purchase their products, but you don't have to. I use Clinique and love it, although it gets pricey. See if you can go on a bonus day, so you get a free gift with purchase!

  • If you are comfortable not wearing make-up on a regular basis, what about just going to a make-up counter and having them do your makeup for the evening?   That way you don't have to invest in something you won't wear very often.

  • You are conductor? What do you teach?

(And since it is MIOS month, is this is Music in our Schools concert?)

I suggest finding a Bobbi Brown counter, stat. I find them the most user friendly.

Ditto this exactly! I use Caryl Baker Visage products and skin care and love them. If you have their membership card you can go in once a month and have your make-up done for free (a great way to try out new colours for the season).

  • Since you don't wear any right now, you probably don't want to go all out.  I suggest getting mascara, a neutral eyeshadow and blush, and a lipgloss.  If you're thinking about getting a foundation, I highly recommend a tinted moisturizer instead of regular foundation.  I like Maybeline Great Lash mascara and Nars Orgasm blush (you can get it at Sephora).  HTH!

My must-have's are eyeliner, mascara, blush, lip gloss and foundation

(ok so that's a lot I guess) Tongue Tied  if I had to choose, I would say mascara & lipgloss

Edit: You can go to Macy's or Sephora and get it.. or even get it done by someone there if you don't want to purchase it and do it yourself!

    This for sure!

  • I would say the basics include mascara, lip something (gloss is in and lighter for a newbie), and a light shade of eye make-up.  Keep your concealer handy too!

I do agree with PP - go to a mall coutner too for a free make-over to get started.  Let them know you are looking for something light and easy!

  • I use Clinique concealer, powder, and foundation (foundation in winter just powder in summer).  All the other stuff I get a drugstore or Sephora.

I would think you would need the above with a little blush or bronzer and mascara.

I teach general music, but I also conduct the middle school chorus. It is a MIOSM concert. We're doing a huge district-wide event at the high school.

  • I use Covergirl CG smoothers foundation & covergirl powder & blush.  All are really inexpensive.  I agree going fairly natural for eye shadow & eye liner.  A little mascarra & lip gloss are good must owns to help you "dress up" for any evening in the future.

I've been agreeing with you a lot, Patty. But yes, I LOVE Bobby Brown too and I'm a makeup person.

Explain your situation at the counter, they'll do your makep there and tell them you'd like to purchase some basics when you're through - thta's their angle anyways. Some basics are:

Tinted moisturizer - I'd go for that instead of foundation as a starter.?Undereye concealer, powder, blush, eyeliner, mascara and a basic eyeshadow?and a gloss or lipstick.

  • I don't like to wear too much make-up myself. I think that mascara is a must (I use waterproof, but if you do make sure to get an eye make-up remover). I just use the drugstore kind--I also get concealer at the drugstore). I get Mary Kay mineral powder (it lasts forever), and I use The Body Shop Brush on Radiance (it gives a nice glow to your skin). I never use eye shadow or blush, and I am no good at applying eye liner so I can't help you out with those.
  • For a beginner I would go with a liquid foundation- I use a CoverGirl product. Eye shadow is super easy and does a lot for your eyes, even if you don't know how to use it. Almay has a nice set of 4 that's shade designed for your eye color. Instructions on which color goes where are on the back.

Lip gloss is annoying for me. I still use it occasionally, but it's annoying. It wears off quickly and can be super sticky feeling. CoverGirl makes an excellent lip stain product that colors your lips without feeling sticky (or drying them out like the long-lasting lip sticks) and you won't need to re-apply for hours.

  • I'm a BIG Bare Mineral's Fan!! I absolutely love it! It doesn't feel like I'm wearing make-up!

  • I'm a make up virgin too... there aren't very many of us. I had my makeup done for my wedding too, and otherwise on VERY special occasions I MIGHT wear some mascara and some lipstick. That being said, I have no advice for you, but I'm glad you asked the question because I could use some help in this area as well.
