2nd Trimester

I'm usually not a worrier, but...

So I've been spraying my nursery furniture (using an air compressor and latex paint) and today I had to move everything inside because it was raining. I opened a window and wore a mask, but after about an hour my lungs started to burn and I felt light headed - I stopped after that and sat outside for a bit but not I'm a little worried that I've done some damage to LO (considering it was clearly in my lungs).

I usually roll my eyes at these paranoid posts, but what do you think - should I be concerned?

  • If you're worried, call your doctor to ask and be sure...but, it's my understanding that you feel anything damaging before it can do permanent damage to the baby...(not a doctor though...I don't even play one on TV)...

You're most likely just fine, as is little one...but, a call can't hurt...

  • You should be fine.  You listened to your body and got away from it, which is the best thing you can do.
  • You'll be fine, but I definitly wouldn't continue! What kind of mask are you using? Withthat serious equipment, I assume you aren't just using a paper mask (they do NOTHING) but a real mask with chemical filters?

Yeesh, I'm embarrassed to admit that indeed it was just one of the cheapies..I put two on top of eachother to try and keep from breathing it in. Bad move, I know - luckily DH finished for me, I just have this awful feeling that I damaged LO's braincells or something. sigh.

  • Sorry, walked away.  Yes, the pores on those are not small enough to filter out chemicals, just dust (and I suppose bacteria since people use them to stop spreading germs)... and if you don't have them sealed right, not even that.  Remember the warnings are for people constantly exposed to the stuff.... your LO is fine!
