Did any of you who have already had a baby or are really far along use lotion on your belly? And did it help with stretch marks? I already know what's been said about the cocoa butter lotion..but does it actually work? I only have a little bump right now so I have no idea.
Re: Stretch marks...
No creams prevent stretch marks, sorry. Drink lots of water and monitor rapid weight gain...other than that its up to genetics.
Creams will help with any dry skin though, if nothing else...
Well I'm not very far along or have another kid...BUT i did ask my doctor about lotions. She said that no matter what you use its not going to change if you get them or not..It all comes down to if your mom had then...Good chance you will...She said they WOULD help with dry skin and etc though.
Hope that helps a little!?
This. I use cocoa butter because my skin is getting itchy and I want to keep it hydrated. I am hoping that since my mom didn't get any maybe I won't!
I used nothing with my previous pregnancies and I have no stretch marks whatsoever.
Creams/oils/lotions will not prevent them, genetics will.
This!
I like Lubriderm Intense Moisture for itchy belly.

I had no stretch marks with my first until my last two weeks. I was on bedrest for those weeks because of hypertension issues and was gaining a pound a day in water weight. All the water gave me stretch marks all over my belly and thighs. with my subsiquent pregnancies, no new marks have shown up, but I haven't had the hypertension problems either.
PP are right: no amount of cream or lotion will prevent the marks.
Genetics are to blame, verified by my OBG and dermatologist. The hydration provided by lotions and what not help with the discomfort. Afterwards, dermatologist said you can use bleaching creams to help them fade quicker, but they will loose their opacity and fade on their own even without. He told me to save my money and use plain old Vaseline, especially when I get out of a bath or shower to help moisturize and minimize discomfort. But a little goes a long way, just a finger swap will do, not a whole handful. Smooth it out in your hands first then rub it on in circular motions. Does a great job, I use it on my tummy, sides, rear, and breasts in the typical stretch mark hot zones. Give it a whirl, it's cheap. Oh and btw if itching is really intense, you can always use calomine (sp?) lotion, you know the pink stuff we all used when we had chicken pox.
