2nd Trimester

I'm so tired of Acid Reflux...

I've been struggling with Acid Reflux for 2months now. I was able to take TUMs for awhile and get through the night. Now, it's gotten so bad I wake up in the middle of the night gagging. My OB said I can only take TUMs or Mylanta and neither are doing any good. Ugh.

Anyone else suffering with this? Any tips?

  • Did you ask about pepcid or zantac? My doctor told me to take pepcid once a day and then I could also take tums if that didn't cut it.

  • Yup, I asked and he doesn't recommend anything else but the Mylanta and TUMs. He also recommended not eating/drinking after 6pm but I just couldn't do it. I tried 2nights in a row and I would wake up at midnight/1a.m. absolutely STARVED. I would go downstairs to get food and within another 2hrs I had the reflux. I'm def. not winning this battle :o(
  • Hmm...well that stinks.  The pepcid really helped me.  I totally hear you on not eating past 6.  My doc said the same thing but I don't get off work until 5:30 and after driving I don't get HOME until after 6.  So even if I ate immediately after getting home it would be at least 7.
  • What kind of a crackpot doctor thinks a pregnant woman could not eat after 6pm?!?  Maybe if I went to bed at 7pm.  That's just nuts and definitely not a solution.  My doctor told me only Tums, period.  I'm going to see another doctor at my next visit and see if I can get a better answer because the heartburn is killing me.  Good luck.

Haha. I know, I know. He's very old fashioned in his ways. He's been an OB for 25yrs and has delivered over 6,000 babies. He believes no pregnant woman should take meds unless absolutely necc. I totally agree which is why I think we get a long so well but at the same time...I shall suffer. I WISH I had heartburn b.c when I started out with that I could sleep through the night. Not now! I haven't ate since 7:30, now 10:30, and I'm getting it anyways. From what? No f'n clue. Water? Cranberry Juice? Mac N Cheese at 7:30? Cereal at 10:30a.m.? Just 'suck it up' I guess and be thankful when baby is out and I no longer have to deal with it...

  • My doctor told me to get Prilosec OTC and seriously, i have not had heartburn since.  It was terrible too!  Might want to give that a try.
  • Zantac is the only thing that has worked for me. And it's not like everyone gets it at night and stopping eating after a certain time wouldn't help that. I know mine is worse at night, but I get it in the middle of the day a lot as well. I was also told that lots of water might help.
