Babies: 0 - 3 Months

can you mix breast milk and formula in the same bottle?

LO eats 4 ounces per feeding.  Once in awhile we supplement with a formula bottle here and there.  Right now I have 2 ounce bottle of formula and a 2 ounce bottle of breast milk.  I EP.  Can you mix them?

Re: can you mix breast milk and formula in the same bottle?

  • Yes, I called the newborn hotline last week and they confirmed you can.  They just told me to make sure the baby eats the whole bottle because you wouldn't want to waste a drop of the "liquid gold" (breast milk).

  • Yes!  For awhile I was pumping to increase my supply and breastfeeing and supplementing with formula (trying to increase premie's weight), so I would take whatever I could pump and mx it with the formula.  However, throw it out if your LO doesn't eat it all and don't pre-mix it ahead of time.
  • Just feed him the BM bottle first, then the formula, so if she doesn't finish you don't waste BM.
  • yes, you make the formula as normal then add breast milk

  • Absolutely!  I did it with both of my kids.
