2nd Trimester

moving at 32 weeks??

My husband was just transferred to a city located 2 hours away from our current home.  I am a teacher and have decided to continue working until the end of my contract (depending on how fast we sell the house, I may have to live with my parents for a few weeks).

Do you have any advice on finding a new doctor? Or should I deliver at the same hospital I'm already registered at?

Any advice for moving in the 3rd trimester???

Re: moving at 32 weeks??

  • I'm not sure about any advice but I'll be moving cross country at around 28-32 weeks (we're military so I don't have a definite date yet) and driving the 3000miles in one of our cars. So I totally feel your pain, and wish you good luck!

*Oh, and don't try to pack all at once. Space it out so you don't wear yourself out. That's the only advice I've gotten so far.

  • Do you have any friends/family in the area that can recommend some doctors?  You could start calling around/look online and get an idea of where you want to go.  Your current OB will give you a copy of your records to take to your new dr.  No biggie. I would want the baby to be born where you will be living.  The last thing you want to do is be 2 hours away from home with a newborn.

We're moving at 30 weeks but 5000 miles from where we currently live - so consider yourself lucky:)

  • I moved at 27 weeks when I was pregnant with my first child.  Moved 850miles away.  We moved all of our stuff at once.  Just rent the UHaul and recruit some people to help lift the heavy stuff onto the truck.

For the hospital-don't try to drive 2hrs, in labor, to your current hospital.  Talk to some local women who have had babies and find out the "best" hospital in the area for delivering.  Take a tour of a few if you want to, almost all hospitals offer tours of the labor/delivery units.  I also used local recommendations on picking an OB as well.  Of course, only 2hrs away, your current doc may know someone who practices in that area, talk to them first and see if they can make any recommendations.

Also, check with you insurance company!!!!!  You may only have one option for hospitals in your new area, the others may not be covered my your insurance.  I would check with them first and see what your options are, then check with locals and/or do tours.

Good Luck!!!  Moving is always a pain, especially pregnant.  Just relax and try not to feel hurried or rushed.  Do what you can, when you can.
