we had our big ultrasound today and the lady doing it was very nice and the baby looked good for 16 weeks 1 day!!! but I am suppose to be 18 weeks on monday!!! almost two weeks!! this would mean when I took my pregnancy test and got positive I wasnt pregnant yet !! can the baby just be measuring small? also I asked the sex and she said she didnt see anything down there and it was probebly a girl but it was to early to tell I thought you could find out at 14 weeks??? so I am happy the bby is doing good but also annoyed I know justknow tht I wasnt off by 2 weeks
Re: ultrasound letdown!!!
18 weeks is still a little early for the 20 week ultrasound. All the measurements that are usually done are compared to the measurements of a 20 week old fetus. That being said, are they rescheduling your ultrasound?
I wouldn't be too concerned with baby measuring 2 weeks off as long as everything else looked fine. Were you charting and are you confident in your ovulation date? Did you have a 1st tri ultrasound to date the pregnancy?
The u/s can be off by a week. Then maybe you had your dates off a few days and maybe your baby is just a tad bit small by a few days.....adding that up and you get 2 weeks.
This happened to me in the first tri and we were really scared. I was charting so I KNEW my dates. And I took an early HPT too. By the 20 week appointment, measurements had caught up to where I thought I was. They said I had an inverted uterus which made getting the right reading angle for the u/s image hard. And my firstborn was about a week off too in the first u/s, but not later. I think maybe my babies just grow a little slower in the first tri. Maybe same thing for you in the 2nd. They are doing another one on you at 20 weeks right? If it is still off, bring up your concerns with your doc.
We found out at 15 weeks that LO was a boy- but we were warned that it was very early. Confirmed at 20 weeks, but there really are no 'absolutes' in pregnancy timings! And OP, I understand where you're coming from- when they sent me for my 8 week 'confirmation' they told me I was 5.5 weeks along. The tech was brutal about it, too.
Two weeks either way, though, doesn't make that much of a difference. Don't worry, be happy your baby is healthy, and remember that delivery up to two weeks early or late is perfectly normal anyway.
