we had our big ultrasound today and the lady doing it was very nice and the baby looked good for 16 weeks 1 day!!! but I am suppose to be 18 weeks on monday!!! almost two weeks!! this would mean when I took my pregnancy test and got  positive I wasnt pregnant yet !! can the baby just be measuring small? also I asked the sex and she said she didnt see anything down there and it was probebly a girl but it was to early to tell I thought you could find out at 14 weeks??? so I am happy the bby is doing good but also annoyed I know justknow tht I wasnt off by 2 weeks

Re: ultrasound letdown!!!

  • At 16 you should be able to tell.. We were "guessed" a girl at 14 and confirmed at 18.. Did your Dr seem concerned? usually if baby is measuring small they will tell you..are you sure your dates just could be off?

  • Its typical for the dating to be off by a week or two, especially if you haven't had an ultrasound yet. And no, the genitals don't start forming till 14 weeks. You can't see them till AT LEAST 16 weeks but they don't like to tell you till 18 or so because its more accurate then.

  • 18 weeks is still a little early for the 20 week ultrasound.  All the measurements that are usually done are compared to the measurements of a 20 week old fetus.  That being said, are they rescheduling your ultrasound?

I wouldn't be too concerned with baby measuring 2 weeks off as long as everything else looked fine.  Were you charting and are you confident in your ovulation date?  Did you have a 1st tri ultrasound to date the pregnancy?

  • The u/s can be off by a week. Then maybe you had your dates off a few days and maybe your baby is just a tad bit small by a few days.....adding that up and you get 2 weeks.

This happened to me in the first tri and we were really scared. I was charting so I KNEW my dates. And I took an early HPT too. By the 20 week appointment, measurements had caught up to where I thought I was. They said I had an inverted uterus which made getting the right reading angle for the u/s image hard. And my firstborn was about a week off too in the first u/s, but not later. I think maybe my babies just grow a little slower in the first tri. Maybe same thing for you in the 2nd. They are doing another one on you at 20 weeks right? If it is still off, bring up your concerns with your doc.

  • yes I am reschedualed for the begining of april for another ultra sound well I wasnt charting but my husband and I only had sex one time during this time because he had two big hunting trips and I just feel like this is off I am so regular nd Ijust really know my cycle and its fine if I am just wrong but the more I think about it I am getting worried because measuring behind cant be good I think I m going to go in for a 3d ultrasound next week just to put my mind at ease
  • You do not always get pregnant on the day you have sex.  Sperm can survive for awhile just waiting for you to ovulate.

We found out at 15 weeks that LO was a boy- but we were warned that it was very early. Confirmed at 20 weeks, but there really are no 'absolutes' in pregnancy timings! And OP, I understand where you're coming from- when they sent me for my 8 week 'confirmation' they told me I was 5.5 weeks along. The tech was brutal about it, too.

Two weeks either way, though, doesn't make that much of a difference. Don't worry, be happy your baby is healthy, and remember that delivery up to two weeks early or late is perfectly normal anyway.

  • same thing happened to me. I thought I was 18 weeks and turned out to be 16 weeks which makes more sense to me. The tech told me it was a girl with no hesitation and rescheduled another u/s for 22 weeks to do all the measurements. I was let down too, because I thought I was farther along. Now that I'm really 18 weeks, i feel like I've been here already.

  • My ultrasound made me a week off. However, I am still in denial about it and have yet to change my ticker. It's disappointing because I would have much rather moved UP a week then back, but be glad you found out. Can you imagine if you had to have a scheduled c-section because of placenta previa or something only to give birth to a baby that wasn't full term yet. That would suck much more then hanging around 2nd tri a little longer :)
