Curvy/Plus Size Girls...Reassure Me

Hi Ladies,

I was size 14/16 PP and I don't look any different now than I did before. I still fit in my regular jeans and they even fall down. My stomach isn't hard either. People honestly don't believe me when I tell them how far along I am.

When did your bump show up? If you have any pics can I see them? Is your stomach hard?

I also don't feel movement. Every once and a while I think I feel flutters but no kicks or punches. I can't even figure out where the baby is.

At the 20 week ultrasound they said everything was fine but I am getting really worried. And my next appointment isn't for about a week and a half.

Thanks!

  • I would say with my singleton pregnancies i was showing by about 18 weeks and with this twin pregnancy i was definetly showing a lot sooner.  I was about the same size as you starting out.. maybe a little smaller.

I was 18 pp and above my belly button sticks out further than my 38 D/DD boobs but lower belly hasn't grown much. Above belly is pretty firm but below is still gigly. I have only gained 2.6 pounds and while I "thought" I felt something two days ago I think it is wishful thinking. Because of your size you may not feel baby until 24 weeks. This is not abnormal for plus-size in first pregnancy. So try to relax, particularly if you JUST had your big u/s!!!
  • I was a sz 14 pp (but am only 5'4''), how tall are you???  Have you gained very much (I am up 15 lbs).  I feel like I just really started showing...below is a picture of 21 weeks.  I am in tank and jammie pants and that was they way you could really tell, I could still pass for just chunky in regular clothes and I think my boobs have been growing faster than my bump, so they have been overshadowing things!  My belly just hardened up in the last week and I was 23 weeks yesterday.  I didn't feel movement until 20 w 3 d and DH has only lightly felt her kick once from the outside so far.

  • I was a 12 PP but had a lot of extra skin following a previous gastric bypass. I didn't start showing until last week...at 21 weeks I think! How sad is it that I don't remember exactly how far along I am without looking?! My 'bump' if you wanna call it this looks like a beer belly! But is pretty hard! I felt the first swift kick at 19 weeks. I'd say if they said everything looks okay then it more than likely is!! I wouldn't worry so much, maybe your LO is just doing small movements that you don't really pick up on!! Mine did that a lot until last week!

  • Don't worry. I was a 12/14 pp and I'm still not really showing. I just look kind of chunky. I can see the bump when I'm in the tub on my back but other than that, it's not really there.. it does feel hard on the sides but it's still squishy up front :)
  • I havent gained any weight since PP but am a size 16/18. I just started getting a hard belly and im 19w1d. If you have gained any weight, that may be why?!? pardon me if im ignorant I dont really know much about pregnancy as this is my 1st.  I dont have any pics besides my 16 week one and that just shows "fat"...lol.. no baby bump :). Also, I am harder above my belly button then I am below.. kind weird... but idk

  • I was a 16 pp and am just starting to show now at 21 weeks.  But when I did start to show, it creeped up quickly.  But my belly isn't very hard most of the time.  I'm only just starting to feel movement now, flutters, but DH hasn't felt him kick yet.

  • It's normal for bigger girls not to show for a while and not to feel the baby for a while.  The reason for the not showing is because there is some extra 'love' (hehe) in that area so when a skinnier person would be showing the bigger girls don't show 'cause the baby is still busy filling that area up.  They don't feel the baby as soon (or at all) because there is more 'love' to go through when the baby kicks so it's harder to feel.  It also depends on the placement of your uterus AND placenta as well!  Even skinnier girls sometimes don't feel their baby kick or start showing until they're farther along than you even are, so there's nothing to worry about if they said everything's fine, it's fine. :D
  • I was a 16 (give or take) pp and carry most of my weight in my tummy unfortunately.  People who know me and see me often started to notice probably around 16 weeks or so, but to me I just looked extra fat :(  I would say around 20-21 weeks a stranger would know that I was pregnant by looking at me and now there is no mistaking it.  I did start feeling baby as early as 15 weeks though.  It wasn't very often but I did feel her then.  It came more frequent and obvious around 20 weeks or so and I have always felt her really, really low, like below my belly button most of the time.
