Hi ladies! I am not currently pregnant, but we are TTC. When I was pregnant with DD, I was put on bed rest at 28 weeks due to high blood pressure. It never did progress to pre-e, but my BP remained extremely high throughout pregnancy. I ended up being induced, and labored for over 48 hours. When my water finally broke, nothing but blood came out, so they rushed me in for a c-section. It was determined that I'd had a placental abruption (apparently a very large one).
So here is my question. Has anyone had an abruption with a past pregnancy and conceived again after? If so, what was/is your pregnancy like? Were you put on bedrest early, or just closely monitored? I just don't know what to expect and I am terrified!
Re: Placental abruption?
I had chronic placental abruption and previa with my first pregnancy and now with my current pregnancy I am experiencing chronic placental abruptions again. Although it's not as bad since I don't have a previa. I do think the history of abruption increases your odds of having abruptions in future pregnancies but I'd talk to your dr's about it.
In my case, they thought it was just bad luck that it happened with preg#1 and now that it has happened the same way in both pregnancies they think it's a blood clotting disorder. Unfortunately, since the pregnancy will skew the results they can't do any conclusive testing to try and figure it out in order to use meds to regulate it. So, before you do conceive I'd ask to see a MFM/perinatal doc and ask them about any precautions or testing that you should have done beforehand.
Best of luck on baby#2!!
Thanks so much! With my past pregnancy, they thought that the cause of my abruption was high blood pressure. Once I had my girl, my BP went down and everything was fine. Well, about 8 months ago, I developed high BP again, so that is what I am most concerned about. I know it will only get higher once I am pregnant, so I am trying to get it under control as best as I can now. I actually have an appt with my primary doc today, so I am going to talk to him about this and see if it's possibly for me to see my OB before getting pregnant to try and get a game plan.
Thanks again for sharing your story!
