At exactly what age do people decide that sweatshirts with snow covered bird houses and elastic waist jeans are a good choice? Because I don't imagine I'll be making those particular fashion choices ever. And several of my aunts think they are fab.
I have no idea but you just describe my mom and my deceased grandmother to a T lol! And my mother keeps on insisting that I'm not dressing according to my age and keeps trying to push me towards clothes like that... "shut up Ma I aint that old yet"

Well, my mom is 64 and still gets her casual clothes at Old Navy and Gap. And would herself call the Alfred Dunner collection at Macy's "old lady Clothes". Maybe my ideas are skewed!
My mom is 52, and shops at Ann Taylor, BR, Gap, JCrew. She chooses things she is comfortable in, but are still stylish. I imagine she'll do that as long as she feels comfortable in those things. I honestly can't imagine her wearing stuff like you described, lol..

I'm failing to see why you're so bothered. She just said avoid the juniors section. Which is completely the right thing to do for a woman in her 30s.
So I'm doing the wrong thing because I shop in the juniors section? I'm sorry but that is the stupidest thing I ever heard!

Ask mattslady. Apparently she is the resident expert on age-appropriate fashion.
I'm failing to understood why you need to be so b1tchy to me.
Huh, I could have said the same thing. But then again, I am too busy wearing my age-innapropriate "couture" AE jeans to worry about it.

Again, jeans are jeans. It's all about finding ones that fit your body-type the best, IMO. For me, those are in juniors because I am small & petite, yet still like the more fashionable ones (i.e. distressed) and cannot afford to spend $70 for one pair. Even the "short" sizes in the misses sections of dept stores are too long on me & the peties are too old looking. I don't get where you get off judging people about something you haven't even seen on them! It's so holier than thou.
I say those are never okay! My mom is 52 and shops at Calvin Klein, Gap, Old Navy, J Crew... basically all the places I shop. She looks great and I never see her dressing like an old lady, but she doesn't appear to dress younger than her age either. MIL has been wearing that stuff as long as I've known her... and she's in her early 60s, so I think some people just dress that way and others don't.... not an age thing.
Re: Something I always wonder about "age appropriaste" clothes
My mom rocks the elastic band jeans. But then again, she didn't start wearing them until she was 68.
As a rule, I would say if you are old enough to be getting a social security check, then you are old enough to wear elastic and birdhouses.
But not a day sooner.

My mom is 64 and absolutely HATES cheezy sweaters & sweatshirts & crap. She does have some fug patterned turtlenecks, but that's about it.
She mostly does a business casual look. Unless home, then it's ratty jeans, flip flops, tshirt & a flannel. The dirty hippie.
