I'm allergic to soy and my vitamins keep making me sick. Often soy is not listed as an ingredient even though it is part of the vitamins. I generally find out because the prescription lists it when I go to pick them up. My doctor keeps recommending new vitamins, but they don't help because the vitamin reps don't know that soy is an ingredient.
Is there anyone out there who shares my allergy? What are you taking?
ETA: Some other terms for soy are: MSG, Monosodium Glutamate, Glutamic Acid or mono or diglycerides, HVP, miso, soya, soy sauce, soybean, Tempeh, TVP, Tofu, hydrogenated veg oil, lethicin & emulsifiers,or hydrolized protein
Re: Soy Allergy and Prenatals
If your doctor doesn't understand soy allergies, i would go to a nutritionist or naturopathic doctor for their advice on a form of prenatal vitamins. And the Naturopathic doctor should be able to help you out with the allergy in general.
My friend has a lot of health problems so she was having a hard time finding prenatals that her body could handle. The ones from the naturopath were the only ones that worked with her.
i just want to add that soy isn't the same thing as MSG or HVP - those things CAN contain soy.
I was just trying to put together a list of common things that come up related to soy. Thanks for clarifying this.
Thanks! I will try a nutritionist. I actually started with vitamins from my nutritionist (who knows about my allergy). Turned out that they did have soy in them. I ended up getting really sick before my doc and I realized what was happening.
