Charlie loves music. All kids of music. He particularly enjoys seeing people playing instruments.
A few months ago we randomly borrowed an Elmo DVD from the library (it was the only Elmo they had on hand) and it included Baby Bear going to the see the Boston Pops Orchestra perform Peter and the Wolf with his dad. C was mesmerized. He wanted to watch the music parts over and over again (thank you for bonus DVD extras!).
Since then, he has requested that we play any musical performance he sees on TV (music on the Olympics, So You Think You Can Dance, etc) over and over again. Last week I was online and he saw a teeny tiny ad for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and we ended up watching a 6 minute long dance on YouTube. He sat transfixed through the whole thing.
So, my kid loves music and dance. I decided the other day to find a kids performance we could take him to and discovered that the South Valley Symphony has a performance on Saturday of Music for All Ages (Gavilan College at 4pm for those in the area), that includes the Peter and the Wolf piece -- SCORE!
But I'm having second thoughts. Have any of you taken your children to see live music like that (ie not a rowdy concert, but a sit down type event)? If so, how old were they? And did they and you enjoy it?
Any other ideas for places to take him to enjoy live musical performances?
Re: Orchestra/symphony: have you taken your child?
mine?... lol... no
If you think yours will sit through it quietly, go for it.

As long as it's kid oriented, I'd take him in a heartbeat!
Keep an eye out as the weather gets better; there's always lots of music in the park type things during the summer!
Yes. We took G to my friends senior recital at UC Santa Cruz. He was just over 3 years old. We had to leave.
If it is a childrens performance I would thnk that some movement and non-silence would be fine. The performance we went to was not for kids though.
